Rilees in Alaska

Our life and adventures in the Alaskan Arctic. Friday, March 12, 2010. I know, I know, we live in Alaska so of course it's going to be cold. But, it has been COLD the last few weeks. Two weekends ago, it was around 35 below, and tomorrow night we're supposed to have wind chills to 50 below. Can you understand why I am saying "Brrrrrrrrr" yet? The world at 35 below:. Ready to head out:. In fact, it was so cold one night that I put my key in the lock and tried to turn it, and my key snapped in half! We wok...

Rilees in Alaska: January 2009

http://www.rileesinalaska.blogspot.com/2009_01_01_archive.html

Our life and adventures in the Alaskan Arctic. Thursday, January 29, 2009. We are starting to get to the part in the year where the sun comes back. YAY! Here is a picture of the sky when I got home a little after 5pm. (It is 25 below outside which is why the air looks all hazy). Although the sun is up, I call it a "fake sun," because it is still so far away that it almost doesn't seem like it's real. It's obviously not warm sun when it's 25 below outside! Saturday, January 24, 2009. And the other side.

Rilees in Alaska: February 2010

http://www.rileesinalaska.blogspot.com/2010_02_01_archive.html

Our life and adventures in the Alaskan Arctic. Monday, February 22, 2010. We had an amazingly "warm" weekend this past weekend with temperatures around 30 degrees! So, of course, we had to get out and enjoy it. We headed out Friday after school and spent Friday night camping, followed by a morning of drinking coffee, reading, snowshoeing (me) and cutting wood (Michael). Saturday afternoon, we headed home and had a beautiful, sunny ride home. My logger man (it was "warm," remember? First of all, I sincere...

Rilees in Alaska: December 2008

http://www.rileesinalaska.blogspot.com/2008_12_01_archive.html

Our life and adventures in the Alaskan Arctic. Monday, December 29, 2008. After having snow and warmer weather least week with, we are back down to typical December weather for the Arctic. With only about 2 hours of sunlight, we are hanging right about -15 to -20 degrees for the most part. When it gets this cold out, it just seems like everything is frozen, even the air! Not too much longer and we will be able to do our hot water trick where we throw it outside and see what happens! We had a pretty low-k...
