Sassy Molassy: In another country
http://sassymolassy.blogspot.com/2007/10/in-another-country.html
Tuesday, October 16, 2007. Recently, Calvin has been spending a lot of time playing with a kid who lives around the corner. Not around the corner in a house like ours, but in the big house. In the neighborhood for which our street was planned as a convenient abode for the domestic help. The other day as we were driving home from school, he said to me "I think G's friend who lives two doors down is from another country, because he's always playing that game with the stick that has a net on the end.".

Sassy Molassy: Math Wiz
http://sassymolassy.blogspot.com/2007/03/math-wiz.html
Thursday, March 29, 2007. And surprisingly, I rocked the house. Finally, here was math that made sense! I ended up agreeing that I would repeat the semester in question, but only if she put me with my Geometry teacher. For some reason, she did it, with the result that I now had not one but two. PS I have a confession to make- while you were at Rhodes avoiding Math, I was at Rhodes avoiding English. I haven't taken an English class since my senior year of high school! I rock at math- except geometry.

Sassy Molassy: Hillary Clinton reflects
http://sassymolassy.blogspot.com/2008/11/hillary-clinton-reflects.html
Tuesday, November 11, 2008. This morning when I woke up I was. Not The President, again. I lay in bed. Pretending for just that last moment before. Opening my eyes that it had happened. That. I was Her, the first, and that I was just about to. Sit up, swing my legs over the bed and slide. My feet into the fuzzy presidential slippers. I think that it is time I took up a hobby. Maybe. I'll go away, get a little cottage and grow things. What. Is it that people grow when they do that? Who will love me.

Sassy Molassy: Possibly dead, possibly alive cats, or why I did well in Geometry
http://sassymolassy.blogspot.com/2011/11/possibly-dead-possibly-alive-cats-or.html
Sunday, November 13, 2011. Possibly dead, possibly alive cats, or why I did well in Geometry. Have I mentioned how the ipad is cutting into my reading time? I'm still reading, but it takes me much longer to get through a book these days, and a certain slim piece of technology in a cute red leather cover is largely to blame. So maybe it was an attempt to make my ipad time less brain-melting that led me to one of my new favorite things: One-Minute Physics. So the other day I stumbled across this one:.

Sassy Molassy: Between the A and the T (or where I'm at)
http://sassymolassy.blogspot.com/2011/11/between-a-and-t-or-where-im-at.html
Monday, November 07, 2011. Between the A and the T (or where I'm at). Stay tuned for a fascinating discussion of Schrödinger's cat! Meanwhile, on the subject of my large and aging. My fondest daydream right now invlolves being able to wear jeans with a regular straight, semi-fitted shirt without looking like I am smuggling tire tubes into the country. No belly-concealing pleat, no baby-doll swing tops, just a plain old tee. Think of it! I'm using the fatsecret. Exercise can be fun! What Memphis is Like.

Sassy Molassy: License to Breed
http://sassymolassy.blogspot.com/2009/10/license-to-breed.html
Wednesday, October 14, 2009. We were running short on time, so we didn't do the part where we switch groups and try to change each other's minds, but I imagined incredulous questions being hurled at me, and what I would say. Things like "Who would teach those classes and set the standards for 'good parenting'? Where is the American belief in individual freedom and choice, even if that means some people make bad choices? When I saw all those teachers standing over next to "Agree," I thought about how our.

Sassy Molassy: March 2012
http://sassymolassy.blogspot.com/2012_03_01_archive.html
Friday, March 30, 2012. A White Person's Guide to Recognizing Privilege. 1 When, as a teenager, my friends and I wear ridiculous clothes, style our hair into something that looks like a health code violation, listen to awful music, and generally make asses of ourselves, adults around us will just shake their heads and say "Those dumb kids. They'll learn.". 7 I can say things like "Color doesn't matter. I don't even see color" with a straight face because of course I don't have to think about color...

Sassy Molassy: In Defense of High School
http://sassymolassy.blogspot.com/2009/08/in-defense-of-high-school.html
Saturday, August 08, 2009. In Defense of High School. I think this is a bunch of bullshit, people saying they learned nothing in high school. I learned plenty. I learned about Willa Cather and Hemingway and Sylvia Plath, who became my teenage idol. I read "Our Town" and Joyce's "The Dead" and learned about epiphanies. I read the Spoon River Anthology. I guess I take this particular staple of the cynical hipster canon personally because I am a high school teacher. Duh, right? No But it did shape me into w...
