Bringing Rivendell Home

Tuesday, March 16, 2010. Monday, March 8 (Continued) - Things Get "Hairy". Since John had also picked up the small parts needed to permanently mount the jerry-rigged fuel pump on the generator on his parts quest the previous day, I decided to tackle the generator on the premise that, if I could get it running like it had been earlier, we could at least have some lights and might even be able to cook a proper meal. We had drifted another 70 yards downstream and were now much too close to the bridge for my...

Bringing Rivendell Home: Boat Prep -- Days 2, 3 & 4

http://rivendelladventure.blogspot.com/2010/03/boat-prep-days-2-3-4.html

Tuesday, March 2, 2010. Boat Prep - Days 2, 3 and 4. First, let me apologize for my failure to post more often but, as I said previously, the boat was a long way from being "ship shape" so I've been a bit busy. Further, it seems like everything we go to fix takes 3 times longer than expected. Any, here's what has transpired since my last post. Weatherman John at his post. Dave from Pirate's Marina Cove. Aft deck under the plastic tarp. Does this look like a floating deer camp or what? Hi Gary and John!

Bringing Rivendell Home: Sunday, March 7 -- 3rd Day -- "Stuck Like Chuck"

http://rivendelladventure.blogspot.com/2010/03/sunday-march-7-3rd-day-stuck-like-chuck.html

Sunday, March 14, 2010. Sunday, March 7 - 3rd Day - "Stuck Like Chuck". At 9:05, John started calling parts stores and soon learned that there was not a mechanical fuel pump for a 427 cu. in. engine to be found anywhere within several hundred miles! Because, typical of our luck, it's racing season and the racers have gobbled up practically all of the "big block" engine parts! Feeling at least somewhat better about the boat's mechanical condition, we determined to be under weigh at first light and set the...

Bringing Rivendell Home: Saturday, March 6 -- Second Day Afloat

http://rivendelladventure.blogspot.com/2010/03/saturday-march-6-second-day-afloat.html

Sunday, March 14, 2010. Saturday, March 6 - Second Day Afloat. After slugging down half a cup of joe and checking the engine and transmission fluids, I headed off to the marina store/restaurant to secure some breakfast and pay our slip fee while John fired up the engines to let them warm for today's run. With the same skill exhibited during our approach the previous day, John took the helm, "brought the boat about" (turned around) and steered us out through the same snake-like channel that brought us in.

Bringing Rivendell Home: Under Weigh At Last!

http://rivendelladventure.blogspot.com/2010/03/under-weigh-at-last.html

Saturday, March 13, 2010. Under Weigh At Last! John and I woke up @6 am, made breakfast and started stowing things away in order to be ready to go as soon as Dave arrived. Two hours later, not having seen hide nor hair of our new temporary pilot, John went off to get him. Like the first "pilot," Dave also lives on his boat in the marina so it wasn't too long before John returned with the object of his quest. Pirates Marina Cove disappearing astern. A few miles up the river we passed a "landmark" that vir...
