Is there an echo in here? | Exploring Covenant and Kingdom
https://riverbendcog.wordpress.com/2015/07/20/is-there-an-echo-in-here
Exploring Covenant and Kingdom. Discovering what relationship and responsibility are all about. Is there an echo in here? Rear view of boy writing on blackboard. Don’t you hate repeating yourself? Especially when it comes to your children! Or there is nothing worse than listening to someone else who sounds like a broken record, eh? Because we really want them to hear it, and for it to be the last things in their minds so they will remember it and act on it and be safe. How will you approach them?
Dirt does hurt | Exploring Covenant and Kingdom

Exploring Covenant and Kingdom. Discovering what relationship and responsibility are all about. Are you familiar with the saying “God made dirt, dirt don’t hurt”? It’s one of those things you may have been told as a child to help you get over reservations of getting dirty. Well, as it turns, dirt can hurt! Who may ascend the mountain. Who may stand in his holy place? The one who has clean hands. And a pure heart,. Who does not trust in an idol. Or swear by a false god. Please say it is so! It boils down ...
Can People Change? | Exploring Covenant and Kingdom
https://riverbendcog.wordpress.com/2015/07/31/can-people-change
Exploring Covenant and Kingdom. Discovering what relationship and responsibility are all about. It’s hard to give people second chances, isn’t it? At least I often find it hard to do so. Mostly because I know they can’t be trusted and history tells me they will mess up again! They still are who they always have been. The answer to the title of this post is: YES, people can change-but only through the power of God! Do you know persons whose once wayward lives have been redeemed and changed? July 31, 2015.
Before and After | Exploring Covenant and Kingdom

Exploring Covenant and Kingdom. Discovering what relationship and responsibility are all about. 8220;This includes you who were once far away from God. You were His enemies, separated from him by your evil thoughts and actions. Yet now he has reconciled you to himself through the death of Christ in his physical body. As a result, he has brought you into his own presence and you are holy and blameless as you stand before him without a single fault.” col 1:21-22. 8220;Since you have heard about Jesus and h...
My Daily Bread | Exploring Covenant and Kingdom
https://riverbendcog.wordpress.com/2015/08/09/my-daily-bread
Exploring Covenant and Kingdom. Discovering what relationship and responsibility are all about. My reading earlier today took me to 1 Kings 19:3-7. Here we see the prophet Elijah fresh from an amazing time of spiritual victory. He had just defeated the prophets of Baal in a most spectacular contest. (Read 1 Kings 18 if you are not familiar-it is a wonderful chapter). How energized and ready to take on the world Elijah must have felt after these events! He is all out of fight. Fast forward to church this ...

Liturgy, liberty, life and stuff. August 24, 2015. OT Lectionary Aug 30th Trinity 13 Deuteronomy 4:1-2, 6-9. Regular thoughts on the oft-neglected Old Testament Lectionary passages. I wonder if you were a space alien from the planet Tharg and you landed by mistake in Britain, whether your first and instinctive reaction would be to exclaim ‘Surely this great nation is a wise and discerning people! It is worth reminding ourselves, though, of the place of the whole book of Deuteronomy. August 11, 2015.

Regular thoughts on the oft-neglected Old Testament Lectionary passages. A psychiatrist in a famous joke is trying to convince a delusional patient that in fact he isn’t dead. After much fruitless discussion he has an idea: he asks his patient if dead men bleed when cut. ‘Of course not’ came the reply. ‘Dead men don’t bleed! Posted in OT Lectionary. September 28, 2015.

Liturgy, liberty, life and stuff. August 3, 2015. Old Testament Lectionary 9th August Trinity 10 1 Kings 19:4-8. Regular thoughts on the oft-neglected Old Testament Lectionary passages. The study of the whole of 1 Kings 19, as an example of a nervous breakdown, burnout and depression, is a fruitful area for pastoral preaching. Today sadly we get a mere snippet, which has, I would argue, to be seen in the larger context of Elijah’s collapse and restoration. God appears to understand Maslow’s hierarchy of ...

Liturgy, liberty, life and stuff. August 11, 2015. Old Testament Lectionary 16th August Trinity 11 Proverbs 9:1-6. Regular thoughts on the oft-neglected Old Testament Lectionary passages. The parallels with today’s gospel reading are clear: Wisdom, so often personified as a socially intelligent woman, offers to all who are interested a feast of food and wine. A glance at two other passages will help us get the best from this one, though. Because they have turned down the invitations to the feast. Thi...

Liturgy, liberty, life and stuff. September 22, 2015. OT Lectionary Sept 27th Trinity 17 Numbers 11. Regular thoughts on the oft-neglected Old Testament Lectionary passages. Just as the people turn on Moses in their distress, so Moses turns on God, pouring out to him. But even this group don’t get it. Even with this spiritual anointing they are jealous for their position, and are peeved that two elders who didn’t turn up for the event had nevertheless been anointed. Moses himself makes a propheti...The s...

River Bend Cob Guest House. Saturday, August 4, 2007. Having done a little to restore. And bring our 2nd hand oregon pine front door and frame. Back to life and full potential, we put her in. To have the front door of the house open up and then you can look straight through the house directly onto the distant view and more specifically onto Rhenosterkop. Rhenosterkop is the pinnacle.
