R James Healy VFX: The Best Of Now.
http://rjameshealyvfx.blogspot.com/2013/01/the-best-of-now.html
R James Healy VFX. Tuesday, 15 January 2013. The Best Of Now. I recently competed a job with Time Based Arts for MSN/Microsoft. The spot was directed by Tomato. Their directorial approach is the opposite of Ben Hibons (who directed both sequences in my last post) Where as Ben knows his entire world in minutiae, a question to Tomato along the lines of, "does it look like this? Will typically receive an answer such as, "maybe". For them, the entire process is a voyage of discovery. Voice is Paul Megan.

R James Healy VFX. Tuesday, 26 March 2013. R James Healy VFX. 3D Reel 2013. This reel* is composed of my favourite shows from the last five years. Subtitles indicate, the title, the facility where the production took place and the role I played on the project. The sound for this reel was created using audio samples from 1980’s feature films. They are, in order of appearance: Robocop, Mad Max, Scanners, Blade Runner and [of course] Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back. R James Healy VFX.

R James Healy VFX: Back In The Day.
http://rjameshealyvfx.blogspot.com/2013/04/back-in-day.html
R James Healy VFX. Tuesday, 2 April 2013. Back In The Day. The last post contained my most recent 3D reel. Upon viewing it a friend pointed out how times have changed. In my experience, reels didn't really get watched. Certainly in those days their main purpose was for adjusting the height of monitors or stabilising a wobbly desk. So, how to make a reel stand out from the other ergonomic devices in a studio? Make it bright pink! R James Healy VFX. R James Healy. Official Site. R James Healy. Twitter.

R James Healy VFX. Saturday, 9 March 2013. G)OOD (D)EVIL, 3D Making-Of. My previous post contained Chris Turners short film, (G)OOD (D)EVIL. Time Based Arts provided the post production magic and invited me onboard to create some 3D elements. I worked on two sequences realising cracking walls and billowing fabric. R James Healy VFX. R James Healy: M16.2 3D Zoetrope
http://rjameshealy.blogspot.com/2011/06/m162.html
Wednesday, 1 June 2011. The complete zoetrope measures 53" x 24" x 24". The cylindrical viewing area has a diameter of 24" and a height of 9". It's worth noting that this whole area is visible when the piece is 'on' (it's motorised) The animation is lit from above and below with LED's allowing the animation to be viewed in all lighting conditions. The zoetrope is often immediately viewed straight on like a screen, however, viewers then enjoy moving around the piece much like a traditional sculptural obje...

R James Healy: Prototyping 3.
http://rjameshealy.blogspot.com/2011/05/prototyping-3.html
Wednesday, 18 May 2011. I mentioned in a previous post that the zoetrope should allude to a beautiful item of furniture, a light even. Now that I am entering the production phase it is necessary to choose materials and consider how they contribute to the final product. The shutter action of the zoetropes 'drum' requires [colour] contrast, so a dark finish is required. Whilst feeling that wood is the right material, I don't want to create something Victorian, or in any kind of antique aesthetic. The image...
