A commentary on my hikes and other outdoor activities. Mount Martha and Owl Head – 03 July 2010. There was no loop possible, so the return trip was simply back the way I came. Lunch was a nice roast beef grinder on the summit of Martha. The overall trip took just about 4-hours, although I was really taking my time enjoying both summits. A commentary on my hikes and other outdoor activities. Owl’s Head – 19 June 2010. New England Over 40 Hiking Group. Once on the Lincoln Brook Trail, the conditions start to resemble the back country. The trail is still flat, but it is extremely muddy in spots. As in, “don’t lose your boots” muddy. The mosquitoes are also out in force along the trail, but the real biting insects await higher on the mountain. A commentary on my hikes and other outdoor activities. Mt Hale Hike — 29 May 2010. AMC – Boston Chapter. Blackflies were everywhere, today. So far, this was the worst infestation of the season. They were omnipresent at the trailhead – three miles up a dusty dirt road, I might add – and they were omnipresent at the summit where we stopped for lunch. They were also at all points in between. What better way to celebrate the 4th of July than to hike up your favorite mountain? This was the first hike I lead for the RI Outdoor Adventure Club, and it went rather well. We did have several no-shows, but that seems to be the norm in the Meetup.com groups, and there was one person I didn’t expect to see anyway. I wasn’t disappointed. July 6, 2010.
