KjM - on the web: Discovery
http://kjmackey.blogspot.com/2015/02/given-weekend-thats-in-it-as-they-might.html
KjM - on the web. Writing keeps me awake - that's as much as one can ask. Sunday, February 15, 2015. Given the weekend that's in it, as they might say where I hail from, this poem from some time ago might be appropriate. As I mentioned, I've always been worried that it's really to the rhythm of "The Night Before Christmas.". It seemed like a time when endings were reached. When tears were shed, when defenses were breached. And bottles of bubbly were scattered about. Sun Feb 15, 06:42:00 PM. Im glad you e...

KjM - on the web: An old new word, and a new skill to learn
http://kjmackey.blogspot.com/2015/03/an-old-new-word-and-new-skill-to-learn.html
KjM - on the web. Writing keeps me awake - that's as much as one can ask. Sunday, March 15, 2015. An old new word, and a new skill to learn. I was thirteen and excited. At school I'd learned a new word. Not only what it meant. But the how and the why of its meaning. Calligraphy. Our English teacher had explained the roots of the two words that in combination made this new one. I announced it to my father, as something new, wondrous. So I've taken up calligraphy. Or am starting the learning of it....This ...

KjM - on the web: Poetry
http://kjmackey.blogspot.com/p/poetry.html
KjM - on the web. Writing keeps me awake - that's as much as one can ask. Walking through the world. His voice, her voice, their voices. Heard in my heart, in my head. Out here in the wide world. Where they are no more. His face, her face, their faces. Swim before my eyes. As they once were. As they will always be. For—remembered—they remain. Lux perpetua luceat eis. What mean these Miles? For you are close. Far you are not. For you I behold. Apart can we be? For do we not touch —. A Million Miles are.

KjM - on the web: Pausing to listen, for the opportunity to hear
http://kjmackey.blogspot.com/2015/04/pausing-to-listen-for-opportunity-to.html
KjM - on the web. Writing keeps me awake - that's as much as one can ask. Sunday, April 05, 2015. Pausing to listen, for the opportunity to hear. Yesterday, the Saturday before Easter Sunday, we took the time to listen to Bach's St. Matthew Passion. The recording dates from 1962, digitally remastered in 1989. Time needed to be taken. The entire recording clocks in at just short of four hours! I don't know the answer to that final "perhaps." But this was a work that rewarded the pause from the daily r...

KjM - on the web: Impressions of an afternoon
http://kjmackey.blogspot.com/2015/04/impressions-of-afternoon.html
KjM - on the web. Writing keeps me awake - that's as much as one can ask. Wednesday, April 01, 2015. Impressions of an afternoon. A wide belt of green. Curves towards gentle hills. The tramp of feet. Confident step following step. Following the pace of music. Strapped to her forearm. Past the older couple. Slowly keeping pace with one another. A young man stands. Phone raised to ear, forgotten. Looking long after long-lost love. As the birds chase across the sky. In the song of early Spring. A Song of Da...

KjM - on the web. Writing keeps me awake - that's as much as one can ask. Friday, May 08, 2015. From the sea they came. You'll be going, so," she'd said to him that day long ago. Half-grown, as he was then, he still towered over the old woman, his mother. Not so old, he supposed now, not so old in the terms he now understood. But he was young then. Everyone was old. Everyone gone now, and I alone.". Chanting. He couldn't hear. But he didn't need to. He'd made his way in the world. There had been thos...

KjM - on the web: IMAX Game of Thrones...and the snow was falling
http://kjmackey.blogspot.com/2015/02/imax-game-of-thronesand-snow-was-falling.html
KjM - on the web. Writing keeps me awake - that's as much as one can ask. Sunday, February 01, 2015. IMAX Game of Thrones.and the snow was falling. It's a while since I've been to a movie theater, and longer yet since I had an "IMAX experience.". Until last night, I mean. Late last night I went a tad out of my way to watch the final two episodes of Season Four of Game of Thrones—"The Watchers on the Wall" and "The Children"—that had been reformatted for IMAX projection. OK I'm used to fast-paced images i...
