http://biciak.blogspot.com/2014/06/glenn-eames-old-spokes-home-in.html
Friday, June 13, 2014. Glenn Eames' Old Spokes Home in Burlington, Vermont. After 14 years, he opened his own shop and named it the "Old Spokes Home.". He sold used bikes at first and fit right in supplying the fixie crowd until the interest peaked. He grew and sold new bikes, too. And Glenn can prove it. The pre-1900s bikes are organized to illustrate the evolution of bicycle design and innovation in the bicycle's first 40 years. Direct-drive, chain-drive, shaft-drive, wooden spokes, steel-spoked and ad...

Friday, December 28, 2012. Cycling in a Group. Cycling with other folks is often a rewarding experience. Learning the skills of riding in a pack can result in thrillingly fast rides, racing tactics, breakaways and. a long ride home by yourself. Lake Pepin three-speed ride brew-up. Riding with a group of people who love the same things as you is fun. Riding together and sharing the experience of the ride, and then having a meal or a pie- stop together can be a great social event. So, choose wisely...2014 ...

http://biciak.blogspot.com/2014/08/pugsley-to-9zero7-upgrade-part-2-vee.html
Friday, August 22, 2014. Pugsley to 9Zero7 upgrade part 2: Vee Rubber Snowshoe XL 4.8 arrives! The build is almost complete. The Vee Rubber Snowshoe XL 4.8 arrived yesterday and it is a very different beast than it's predecessor the Snowshoe 4.7. Unlike the Snowshoe 4.7, which was more like a real 4.0, the Snowshoe XL 4.8 is every bit a wide high volume tire. The tread is much more aggressive. Snowshoe XL 4.8 on left and Snowshoe 4.7 on right. Time to hit the trail! August 23, 2014 at 3:09 PM. 2012 Cirqu...

biciak: Minnesota Randonneurs: Long-Distance Unsupported Riding - the Apple Valley 200K Brevet
http://biciak.blogspot.com/2014/06/minnesota-randonneurs-long-distance.html
Tuesday, June 3, 2014. Minnesota Randonneurs: Long-Distance Unsupported Riding - the Apple Valley 200K Brevet. Unlike racers who fixate over every ounce on the bike randonneurs tend to be more concerned about fit than weight. They spend time refining the fit of their bike so that every little irritating pain is eliminated because what is a minor annoyance at 30 miles can be a ride killer at 200 miles. Bike club in France. Rob Welsh gives the pre-ride info/safety speech. With his Rivendell Homer Hilson.

biciak: Emiliano Freschi
http://biciak.blogspot.com/2014/03/emiliano-freschi.html
Sunday, March 23, 2014. In November of 1981 I had just arrived in Milano, Italy as a tourist. But I was not going to the typical tourist attractions. I was interested in bicycle culture and history. My first stop was Detto Pietro Olmo, a great bike shop near the main train station. My second destination was the shop of Faliero Masi, located in the Vigorelli Velodrome. On my list were visits to Campagnolo and Cinelli. I returned to Plaza Gramsci to the shop of Emiliano Freschi and bought my red Freschi.

Midwest Chronicles - Alaska to Wisconsin: 30 DOB - Day 19
http://alaskatowisconsin.blogspot.com/2015/04/30-dob-day-19.html
Sunday, April 19, 2015. 30 DOB - Day 19. Another ride late in the day, just as a few sprinkles and then light rain began to fall. My favorite "short" ride is down Riverside and then over to Airport Road, off of which there is a quiet little park that borders the Namekagon River with a couple of benches, a picnic table and a path down to a small dock on the river's edge. Thanks to the Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Program. A mostly metal (rather than plastic) Simplex derailleur. 30 DOB - Day 28, Painted Turt...

biciak: Christmas in Milano by Barbara Kelly
http://biciak.blogspot.com/2008/03/christmas-in-milano-by-barbara-kelly.html
Sunday, March 16, 2008. Christmas in Milano by Barbara Kelly. We entered the obscure storefront tucked away in the side of the Vigorelli Velodrome. A few older men, probably veteran racers and faithful customers, were ranting away in Italian. Curious stares met our questioning glances. It was hard to believe this was Masi's. The planning for our trip began in September. All of us were, students at the University of Alaska and had decided to spend the break between semesters on a European bicycle trip.

biciak: A 1963 Peugeot 650B conversion
http://biciak.blogspot.com/2014/06/a-1963-peugeot-650b-conversion.html
Friday, June 6, 2014. A 1963 Peugeot 650B conversion. What does that mean? The 650B is a designation of wheel size. Bike tire/wheel measurements are about as messy as any measurement made these days. The same exact wheel/tire can be measured many different ways. To make things worse, some tires/wheels are only talked about in one measurement system or the other. Jan Heine, in his magazine Bicycle Quarterly,. The interesting thing is that older 700c sport touring bikes of the 1970s, that can't use wider t...
