After a great deal of planning and work the Evergreen Environmental Technologies Waste Facility opened in December 2003. The facility caters to the eight partners which have a combined population of 12,946. The facility will have a capacity of 700,000 tonnes of solid waste, providing for approximately 100 years of waste disposal for the region at current rates. All waste material is baled and then put into an active cell, which would then be capped when full, with new ones being constructed as required.
