6th Grade Parent FAQs. Common questions from new band parents. Does my child need previous music experience in order to participate in 6th Grade Band? We teach students how to read music if they need a brush up on that. We teach them everything they need to know about the instrument they select - complete from how to put it together, how to take care of it, and how to play it. Any prior music experience is valuable, but it is in no way required. I'm afraid my child's grades might suffer because of band.

6th Grade Parent FAQs. The Russell Middle School Beginning Band is a group of 6th grade band members only. This band learns the basics of playing their instruments during band class. The beginners will play two - three concerts throughout the school year. The Percussion Ensemble is for 7th and 8th Grade Percussionists, and 6th grade Percussionists in the Spring semester.
