Wednesday, April 14, 2010. Remembering Brenda July 6, 1970-April 14, 2007. So far, this blog has mainly described my insane training regimen as a member of the IronTeam. But it has also highlighted some athletic accomplishments that never in a million years I thought I would ever achieve. Swimming in open water in 50 degree weather, riding my bike up Mt. Diablo, doing as many sprint triathlons as I can in a 5 hour span- -who knew? As I got to know Brenda better, I met her husband Jim; her two sons, Trevo...

IRON UP: Lasso'd the Yasso's.....
http://kickbuttwu.blogspot.com/2010/01/lassod-yassos.html
Sunday, January 31, 2010. After our triathlon last Sunday, this recent week was supposed to be a "recovery" week- -like everything else, it's all relative. Nothing is easy when it comes to IronTeam training. The biggest challenge this week was completing the run marker, which consisted of the Yasso 800's. On Saturday, our team met at Sports Basement. In Crissy Field for a 1.5 hour run, a strength/core workout with the TRX,. I was going to do the bike marker today, but just needed a day off. My quads ...

IRON UP: May 2010
http://kickbuttwu.blogspot.com/2010_05_01_archive.html
Sunday, May 16, 2010. Still at the Back of the Pack. When I trained with the run team, I was at the back of the pack and things haven't changed much now that I'm cycling and swimming. Yesterday was my longest ride to date (an 80 miler) which was essentially the Vineman. I will have to remember this stop for future rides. I saw Coach Mike at Chalk Hill and we rode together back to our starting point in Santa Rosa. I think I finished the ride about 1.5 hours after the speed demons on the team. ...Live the ...

IRON UP: June 2010

Sunday, June 13, 2010. Epic Weekend at Clearlake, 3/4 to Iron (June 4-6, 2010). Saturday morning came too quickly.we arrive at the Shaw's around 5:30 ish to set up the transition area and to get into our wetsuits. Since I was in the first wave start, I had to be in the water at 6:30 am. Once back at the house, I showered and changed into clean clothes and began to feel human again. One by one, my teammates started rolling in. And as a team, we went outside the gate and cheered for Maria who compl...Relie...

http://kickbuttwu.blogspot.com/2010_03_01_archive.html
Wednesday, March 10, 2010. 8:00 am, Saturday, March 6, 2010. Lake DeValle, Livermore, CA. We look happy here don't we? We are still on dry land, all warm and snug in our. Wetsuits. This was our second open water training. And while driving over, the temperature in my car read. Moments later we began the "Death March" into. Captain Tony was nearby during my entire swim, keeping a watchful. Eye on Dana and me. His presence was very reassuring, although I was. I started my second loop around the buoys.

IRON UP: TRI (ED) and True....
http://kickbuttwu.blogspot.com/2010/01/tri-ed-and-true.html
Wednesday, January 27, 2010. TRI (ED) and True. It's true, I completed by first triathlon on Sunday, January 24, 2010! Fortunately, there were volunteers who counted our laps for us, because I lost count and would've kept on swimming. Finished the swim in 40:26- -got myself hoisted out of the pool and transitioned into bike gear. One would think that the run portion would be the easiest for me- -NOT! A big hug and thanks to the Coaches who made this possible! Wednesday, January 27, 2010. You were awesome...

ACL Reconstruction to Ironman Kona: Ironman # 8: Arizona 2012
http://neomedic.blogspot.com/2012/12/ironman-8-arizona-2012.html
ACL Reconstruction to Ironman Kona. Saturday, December 8, 2012. Ironman # 8: Arizona 2012. As I mentioned in my IM Florida report, I tend to take my time in transition. However, this one was a bit longer because the heater felt so good after the cold water swim. I couldn't help lingering a little bit longer to warm up. Well loop 1, everything is new and exciting. Loop 2 is the toughest loop, because you have seen it already and you know that you will see it all again on Loop 3! 1 Year Post-Op (Surgery #2).

ACL Reconstruction to Ironman Kona: September 2011
http://neomedic.blogspot.com/2011_09_01_archive.html
ACL Reconstruction to Ironman Kona. Sunday, September 18, 2011. Well when I finally exited the water I felt fresh and not as tired as 2010. But when I checked my results later I realized I was 7 minutes slower than 2010. Again my post-concussion syndrome was partly to blame and perhaps my swim strategy was flawed. In comparison, my 2.4 mile swim time at Vineman 4 weeks prior to Louisville was 1:21:52. Wednesday, September 7, 2011. Post Concussion Syndrome to Ironman Louisville 2011. This latest one may h...
