The Road Less Traveled

The Road Less Traveled. Wednesday, August 12, 2015. In Search of the Mountain. Finally the day arrived for us to begin our journey east on WA 20 into the Cascade Mountains. As soon as we left Sedro-Woolley, I was snapping pictures of the pretty Skagit Valley out the front window. I really do miss my 10x zoom.). When we spotted this lovely cedar tree, I thought I’d again try the shot where ‘we’ broke the camera. This time I took it with the strap securely around my wrist. Finally we found that the best vi...

The Road Less Traveled: Wheee !!

http://roamingbarbara.blogspot.com/2008/09/wheee.html

The Road Less Traveled. Tuesday, September 23, 2008. Here we are starting up Long Canyon. The drivers in order are Max, Bertie, Ernie, Bob, John, and Tom behind us. It wasn't as smooth as it looks in this picture since it was pretty rocky, but then it wouldn't be any fun. And it was beautiful. This dip was a challenge and a couple of the vehicles bottomed out. (Yes, I'm doing that back-seat shooting again.). While there, we broke out the lunches. WINs are always happy when eating. Here's the other Jeep&#...

The Road Less Traveled: Sedro-Woolley

http://roamingbarbara.blogspot.com/2015/08/sedro-woolley.html

The Road Less Traveled. Tuesday, August 11, 2015. The cute town of Sedro-Woolley is the jumping off point for WA 20 through the North Cascades. We stopped at the visitors center and got lots of good information for our big adventure. I've been looking forward to this drive for years and I hope I haven't over-anticipated. You know, where you expect so much that you're bound to be disappointed. I'll crop it so you can see some of the detail. Ron liked the old drugstore one. I would love to see that. Those ...

The Road Less Traveled: Bryce Canyon NP

http://roamingbarbara.blogspot.com/2009/10/bryce-canyon-np.html

The Road Less Traveled. Thursday, October 15, 2009. Well, we HAD to stop at Bryce Canyon - surely the most unusual place on earth. We were there on a cloudy afternoon, but luckily you can't really take a bad picture at Bryce. This is the view from Sunset Point. But we wanted to go down among the hoodoos. We took off down Navajo trail - lots of switchbacks lead to this much photographed tree. Then we made a loop with the Queens Garden trail. Somebody got a little crazy with the trail markers. Bryce is won...

The Road Less Traveled: Water and Flowers

http://roamingbarbara.blogspot.com/2015/08/water-and-flowers.html

The Road Less Traveled. Sunday, August 9, 2015. First the water. We took a loop drive up to Bellingham past pretty Lake Samish. Funny, we were anticipating a lovely drive along the lakeshore, but found very few places where the lake was visible through the trees. This was one. Somebody even painted the tunnel under the road. I loved that. As for the flowers, when we met up with Dave and Marcia, they suggested a visit to the WSU Discovery Garden in Mount Vernon. What a beautiful place! That flower may be ...

The Road Less Traveled: Sequim, WA

http://roamingbarbara.blogspot.com/2015/08/sequim-wa.html

The Road Less Traveled. Wednesday, August 5, 2015. We moved on to the Elks lodge in Sequim where we boondocked in their lovely field for $6 a night. This was the quietest place we've stayed in a long time. And because it was the first place all summer where the temperature hit the 80s, we were very happy with our afternoon shade. The wonderful things about this hike are the minimal elevation change and the spectacular views. After about a mile of perfection, the trail heads into the trees and downhill.

Brenda's Going Bye Bye: Back on Line

http://brendasgoingbyby.blogspot.com/2008/08/back-on-line.html

Brenda's Going Bye Bye. Monday, August 4, 2008. After three days of not being able to get a signal with my Internet Satellite Dish, I finally gave up and went to Verizon Wireless and got an air card. I have 30 days to decide if I want it. If I cannot get a callback from someone at DirecStar (so far no luck on a callback) I will cancel my service and stay with the air card. I must say, this air card is pretty fast. Not as fast when I download my podcasts, but web pages seem faster. View my complete profile.

Brenda's Going Bye Bye: What do those numbers mean?

http://brendasgoingbyby.blogspot.com/2008/06/what-do-those-numbers-mean.html

Brenda's Going Bye Bye. Friday, June 13, 2008. What do those numbers mean? In a recent conversation, I mentioned that I reuse plastic water bottles, and the person to whom I was talking (forgive me, I don't remember who that was) said that some plastic can be harmful because it can release toxic particles into the water. I should be using only plastic with a certain number on the bottom, to indicate it would not release said toxins. The symbol code we’re familiar with—a single digit ranging f...Number 2 ...

Life on the Open Road: July 2014

http://lifeontheopenroad.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html

Life on the Open Road. The continuing adventures of a fulltime RVer. Thursday, July 31, 2014. Well, maybe a wee bit. There's a great trail that starts out from the Visitor's Center, and goes up the mountain. In the past I've been able to go a mile or so before the trail was snow covered and I had to turn around. But this year has had record snowfall, so we'll see. So far, so good. And we even have some nice company on the trail. There are Western Anemones -. This is a photo from when I was here in 2006.

Life on the Open Road. The continuing adventures of a fulltime RVer. Sunday, May 31, 2015. A Capitol Tour in Des Moines. After we got our new drivers licenses, Phil and I rejoined the WINs in Des Moines, IA. Of course, the first thing on the agenda was to go see the capitol. We were unable to sign up for a tour ahead of time, but were pleasantly surprised that we had no trouble getting one when we got there. The mosaics were made in Venice from small pieces of colored stone. The owner was a very nice guy...

Brenda's Going Bye Bye. Tuesday, May 19, 2009. Thanks to the Escapees RV Club. Some RV groups claim proudly that they are not political. That's certainly their choice; they have a right to run their organizations any way they want to. But I'm glad I belong to one group who proudly is. Political - The Escapees RV Club. They do so much good for all RVers out there, we should take a minute to thank them. Thanks, Escapees Club, for keeping tabs on the political scene and letting us know so that we can partic...

Brenda's Going Bye Bye: I'm not in Kansas any more

http://brendasgoingbyby.blogspot.com/2008/05/im-not-in-kansas-any-more.html

Brenda's Going Bye Bye. Saturday, May 17, 2008. I'm not in Kansas any more. I've stayed at Fraternal Organization's lodges quite often, usually in cities because it's the best, cheapest, safest thing around. I've seen my share of police activity in those urban settings. Once in Payson, AZ, once in Mesa, AZ, and most recently in Henderson NV while I was parked at the Elks. I didn't quite understand why it took five vehicles and 9 policeman to get one guy. They even brought out a dog. What have we here!
