Where in the world?: Muang Ngoi

http://roamingleah.blogspot.com/2008/05/muang-ngoi.html

Monday, May 12, 2008. I was told that if I wanted some beautiful scenery, fewer tourists and a nice hammock to relax in, I should head up to Muong Ngoi, to the north of Luang Prabang. So, I set off early one morning to catch the 8:30 bus to Nong Kiaow, where boats leave for Muang Ngoi. (No roads to Muang Ngoi. boats only! Once we finally arrived (about an hour and 45 minutes after we started on our "1-hour boat ride"), I grabbed my bag and headed down the main street. The scenery was stunning! It was clo...

Where in the world?: April 2008

http://roamingleah.blogspot.com/2008_04_01_archive.html

Wednesday, April 30, 2008. I've decided that I'm never going to get around to writing a day-by-day account of my trekking experiences, since that's now a good week or so behind me, so I will write a list of highs and lows, which gives a pretty good idea of what was involved. Guide who is originally from one of the hill tribes (and spoke English! Bathing side by side with the villages in a stream, wearing a sarong for modesty. Not seeing another trekking group during our journey. Sunday, April 27, 2008.

Where in the world?: March 2008

http://roamingleah.blogspot.com/2008_03_01_archive.html

Monday, March 31, 2008. Doing as the Romans do, Day 2. On Thursday, I had a lazy morning catching up on sleep after my late night the night before. I also quizzed Francesca on places to check out in Rome, since it is my first time here. It worked out beautifully, and I was back at the apartment at about 11 and ready to stay in for the night. But Francesca was going to go out to meet her boyfriend for just one drink. Right. So I joined her and got my first Roman scooter ride in the process! A must for all.

Where in the world?: And on to Cambodia

http://roamingleah.blogspot.com/2008/07/and-on-to-cambodia.html

Saturday, July 5, 2008. And on to Cambodia. I took enough time to update my trip up until this point, let's see what we can do for my last 10 days in Asia. Here goes nothin'. So off I went. Since my time was starting to run short, and I wanted to allow myself enough time to truly see Angkor Wat, I hopped on a plane from Pakse to Siem Reap, Cambodia. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Where in the world? I'm on a mini-around the world trip! And on to Cambodia. I'm starting off on some travels to known an...

Where in the world?: February 2008

http://roamingleah.blogspot.com/2008_02_01_archive.html

Friday, February 29, 2008. That didn't matter too much, as I wasn't very good company due to the amount of booze and lack of sleep from the night before. I did chat with some people who'd done both the full day and half-day rafting, and although everyone had a good time, the full-day trip sounded much better. I decided to wait around a day to see if anyone else arrived to do the full-day trip. However, we made it over safely with everyone intact in the raft. All in all, I fell out twice - once was mid-ra...

Fortneyfied!: The Cat Came Back... from Fresno

http://fortneys.blogspot.com/2013/03/the-cat-came-back-from-fresno.html

Thursday, March 7, 2013. The Cat Came Back. from Fresno. From 2004 to 2009 we were a two cat household. After Finn was born our younger cat, Murray, wasn't happy, and generally demonstrated it by peeing on lots of things outside the litter box (including, on two memorable occasions, Jonathan and me). I wrote about it here. Among other places. For the last few years we've been supporting his upkeep at Cat House on the Kings. 1) Kennel in the garage. We built him a fenced in area inside our garage, so he'd...

Fortneyfied!: October 2012

http://fortneys.blogspot.com/2012_10_01_archive.html

Sunday, October 7, 2012. Back to the Pumpkin Farm. Yesterday afternoon (after grocery shopping, laundry, swimming lessons.) we headed up the coast to Half Moon Bay on our annual pumpkin farm. Up at the pumpkin farm, the first order of business is always the 2 acre hay maze. We've been doing this most years since 2005, even if I was 8 1/2 months pregnant. After the maze we all picked out our pumpkins - and took the obligatory pictures-of-boy(s)-in-field-of-pumpkins. It's a family favorite. There are d...

Fortneyfied!: September 2012

http://fortneys.blogspot.com/2012_09_01_archive.html

Sunday, September 2, 2012. Why we didn't blog in August. Here is our list of excuses, in chronological order, as best as we can reconstruct from last month's calendar, e-mail, and Facebook. Aug 1: What, I have 30 more days left. Aug 2: 29 more days. What's the big deal? Aug 3: Went to Shakespeare Santa Cruz's Twelfth Night. Aug 4: Drove to San Rafael to spend the weekend with friends. Aug 5: Drove home from San Rafael. Aug 6: Monday. You can't blog on a Monday. Aug 13: Monday again. Aug 17: Drove to Iowa.

Fortneyfied!: December 2012

http://fortneys.blogspot.com/2012_12_01_archive.html

Monday, December 17, 2012. Merry 2012, Happy 2013. This is our second annual holiday blog update. We are delighted to report that almost nothing has changed since last year. We're all living in the same house, working at the same jobs or attending the same preschool (watching the same movies, eating the same foods, reading some of the same books.). For fun family roadtrips. For the vibrant and robust health of our kids, even when it means they exhaust us. For living somewhere beautiful and friendly.

Fortneyfied!: Cats, carousels, and whiny NOs

http://fortneys.blogspot.com/2009/05/cats-carousels-and-whiny-nos.html

Thursday, May 28, 2009. Cats, carousels, and whiny NOs. We are officially a one cat household. Murray lives here. Now It's not ideal, but it's the best we could do after more than a year of trying to deal with his issues. I hope he likes it. I know Mona enjoys having access to the whole house again. Last Sunday we went to Vasona/Oak Meadow Park. Here in Los Gatos, and Finn rode the carousel. Built for the 1915 Panama Pacific Exhibition! Going down the slide, without help. More photos at Flickr.

Fortneyfied!: Fortney Christmas/solstice/etc. letter 2011

http://fortneys.blogspot.com/2011/12/fortney-christmassolsticeetc-letter.html

Sunday, December 18, 2011. Fortney Christmas/solstice/etc. letter 2011. If you want a normal Christmas letter, you can go read this first. All that is true of us. Graham insists on wearing sweatpants nearly every day. Or, as he calls them, "sofpants.". Jonathan got to go golfing this month. He shot a 40 on a par 30. It's been so long since he's golfed at home with his own clubs that we cannot figure out how long it's been (and we tried very hard for multiple minutes). Finn knows his right from his left, ...

Fortneyfied!: June 2012

http://fortneys.blogspot.com/2012_06_01_archive.html

Thursday, June 14, 2012. Next Venus Transit is in 2117! Went so well that we decided to view the transit of Venus. This time there was an excellent view right in town, so we headed to the west side of campus to take in the multi-hour event. Venus transits were first predicted by Kepler (the man) and viewed in 1639. Here is the best pic that I got through a telescope using only my camera phone. The white balance appeared to be confused. Finn looked through 3 different telescopes. He was quite excited.

Fortneyfied!: The Outdoorsy boys

http://fortneys.blogspot.com/2009/03/outdoorsy-boys.html

Sunday, March 15, 2009. If you know anything about our cats, you'll know that we've had terrible troubles with Murray peeing inappropriately around the house for about a year now. I wouldn't wish this problem and its associated stress on anyone. There have been many visits to the vet, many products have been purchased and used around the house (happy cat scent diffusers, anyone? He sounds like he's got a Boston accent. (Murr! And he's started liking hats! March 17, 2009 at 8:40 AM. Yep, he's up to 11 now!

Fortneyfied!: July 2012

http://fortneys.blogspot.com/2012_07_01_archive.html

Tuesday, July 3, 2012. As We Like It. Tomorrow is the 4th of July, which may end up being Graham's favorite holiday after Christmas. He is quite adept at spotting American flags, telling us he sees them, and that they are there "Because our country is America! Yes, I used two exclamation points on purpose. He's really into it. In our neighborhood there is a July 4th bike parade, which Finn had a blast at last year, so we'll doing that again. FANNN-TASTIC" "Do I get a fruit snack? Are you so happy? This i...

Roaming Legs - Roaming far and beyond

Roaming Legs - Roaming far and beyond. Sunday, June 28, 2015. Today, I am tired. I frequently wonder how life would have turned out if I didn't start La Novella. Would I be happier? Would I be earning more? Would I have a 5 digits saving? Would I be married earlier? Would we be less stressed up? What would life be like? At this point in my life, life is exhausting. I feel suffocated by money, the lack thereof. I feel suffocated by life. I've lost a lot of friends over the years. Not by choice. Unfortunat...

Roaming Les Rues Parisiennes | An American girl studying abroad in Paris

Roaming Les Rues Parisiennes. An American girl studying abroad in Paris. The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes but in having new eyes. In class, on the Metro (shout out to Line 4), and strolling (and occasionally strutting) down the Haussmann aggrandized boulevards Paris is famous for. I visited all of this city’s great monuments whilst wishing I could, yet knowing that I could never discover every secret corner of this French metropolis. Would I return to Europe? I have off...
