Rob Conery | Embracing SQL In Postgres

http://rob.conery.io/2015/02/24/embracing-sql-in-postgres

What I'm Doing Now. Embracing SQL In Postgres. February 24 2015 Fun. One thing that drives me absolutely over the cliff is how ORMs try so hard (and fail) to abstract the power and expressiveness of SQL. Before I write further let me say that Frans Bouma. Reminded me yesterday theres a difference between ORMs and the people that use them. Theyre just tools (the ORMs) - and I agree with that in the same way I agree that crappy fast food doesnt make people fat - its the people that eat too much of it.

Rob Conery | RethinkDB 2.0 Is Amazing

http://rob.conery.io/2015/04/17/rethinkdb-2-0-is-amazing

What I'm Doing Now. RethinkDB 2.0 Is Amazing. April 17 2015 Rethinkdb. I just turned in my next course for Pluralsight. Almost in time for their announcement that 2.0 has been released. This is very exciting. Its a production-ready release which means that all the work theyve done over the last 3 years is ready to go, and its mind-blowing. I have been using RethinkDB (in a hobby-ish way) for the last 2 or so years, in fact I featured it in a TekpubTV video. And seeing what could be done with the new.

What I'm Doing Now. Using Entity Framework 6 with PostgreSQL. February 05 2014 Postgresmicrosoft. Postgres is an amazing database and you can EF with it, sort of. If you want to explore something new and have some fun - read on. Image Credit: http:/ www.therisetothetop.com/davids-blog/entrepreneur-mad-scientist-artist/. You Can Do It, Yes You Can. But. This is the essence of hacking. Step 1: Install Postgres. Since were working with EF Im assuming youre on Windows - so head on over to postgresql.org.

Rob Conery | Repositories On Top UnitOfWork Are Not a Good Idea

http://rob.conery.io/2014/03/04/repositories-and-unitofwork-are-not-a-good-idea

What I'm Doing Now. Repositories On Top UnitOfWork Are Not a Good Idea. March 04 2014 Opinion. There is a trend in the .NET space. Of trying to abstract EF behind a Repository. This is a fundamentally bad idea and hopefully I'll explain why. Its generally believed that by using the Repository pattern, you can (in summary) decouple your data access from your domain and expose the data in a consistent way. If you look at any of the implementations of a Repository working with a UnitOfWork (EF). This kicks ...

Rob Conery | It's Time To Get Over That Stored Procedure Aversion You Have

http://rob.conery.io/2015/02/21/its-time-to-get-over-that-stored-procedure-aversion-you-have

What I'm Doing Now. It's Time To Get Over That Stored Procedure Aversion You Have. February 21 2015 Rant. In the .NET world (and beyond), data access is a cluster-fucked echo chamber of half-assed rocket engineering and cargo cultism based on decade-old cathedralized thinking and corporate naval -gazing. Empty, painful, dark. Damn I am sick of this conversation. You need to let this love flow. Developers dont want Stored Procedures and Functions in their database because. Business Logic in database bad.
