Rob Blair - his blog. Musings of a veteran software developer. Thursday, October 05, 2006. Converting VB to C# . I recently converted a suite of VB utility functions (DB layer, app logging, etc) from VB.Net 1.1 to C# 2.0. Originally they were written in VB6 - I ported them to VB.Net a few years back - essentially by rewriting them. In this case I first converted to VB.Net 2.0 (just open the project in VS2005 and it converts for you). Get the demo converter here: Instant CSharp. Tuesday, January 24, 2006.

Better hurry - you gotta sign-up before January (it's a Christmas special offer):. Hat tip: Paul Vick (his link is in 'Developer Links' on the right). Rob Blair - his blog. Musings of a veteran software developer. Thursday, October 05, 2006. Sharp Develop 2 - now with integrated debugger! My main beef with Sharp Develop was the lack of an integrated debugger. Other than that I could see very few reasons not to use it. They have now got the debugger, plus a few other cool features (like SurroundWith) which VS2005 doesn't have. See the whole story here: Sharp Develop 2 Feature Tour. Posted by Rob Blair at 11:43 AM. Rob Blair - his blog. Musings of a veteran software developer. Friday, November 18, 2005. How I became a programmer . I get asked this one a lot, especially by young developers . I looked around for something to do in the evenings. Then I saw an ad in a New Scientist magazine (British edition) for a Sinclair ZX80 micro-computer (no such thing as a PC back then). I sent off 99 pounds (couple hundred Aussie dollars) and they mailed one off to me. Compared to the ZX-80 the Tandy was hot! The best thing abou...

http://robblair.blogspot.com/2005/11/programmer-joke.html

Rob Blair - his blog. Musings of a veteran software developer. Friday, November 18, 2005. A programmer joke . A programmer goes to his insurance agent, and says, I’m so glad that I have a policy with you, something terrible has happened my house just burned down! But I have full coverage with your agency, and I’d like to file a claim. The agent says, Well then, let’s have a look at your policy and rummages in his files. But I have full Fire and Flood coverage! Cries the programmer in disbelief.

The Ancient Rhymer: April 2006

http://ancientrhymer.blogspot.com/2006_04_01_archive.html

Naive lyrics from an unlettered old-timer. Wednesday, April 19, 2006. Three poems are presented here in an attempt to disprove the theory that free verse is not verse at all, just prose with strange punctuation. The first poem was collected from a website which shall remain unnamed. It was the first poem in a list of poems of the twenty-first century. It seems to be, at least in its lack of any rhyme, rhythm and metre, representative of the rest. My second exercise is to take a piece of plain prose, and ...

The Ancient Rhymer: December 2005

http://ancientrhymer.blogspot.com/2005_12_01_archive.html

Naive lyrics from an unlettered old-timer. Saturday, December 17, 2005. Nathan's basic poetry tutorial. Starting to teach yourself to be a home poet is quite easy. For the very first step you need to do the rhyming part. All you have to do, for an example, is say something like:. My cousin is little. And she is brittle. But thats not all you write - you have to write sensible english words. Posted by Rob Blair at 3:43 PM. I am a piece. In the game of chess. I gallop and turn. And jump quite free. The ene...

Like the windows of the house of de Limon. Posted by Rob Blair at 2:15 AM. Mr Goon Comes Again. When my son and I were having dinner tonight we thought of another Mr Goon poem (well my son did, and I helped a little - a very little actually). By the light of the Moon. On the 18th of June,. And he sang a merry tune.

Naive lyrics from an unlettered old-timer. Thursday, June 01, 2006. To Francis (on learning she is pregnant again). I have heard, my dear Fran-cis. Of your increasing maternal bliss. So this missive I pen to you sis. Give baby-you-have from me a big kiss. Tho for baby-to-be you cannot do this,. Surely a pat on your tummy will not go amiss.). Posted by Rob Blair at 7:10 PM. Bikeschool tonight 8pm CST: Motivation, Perspiration, Inspiration & Aspirations. It’s been a while since I’ve proffed a #bikeschool and this was sort of a last minute sign-up. It will be good to suit up in the tweed kit though. I had been playing around all week with possible themes and decided to open it up to the twitterati. Right off the bat someone suggested asking about the #bikeschool crowd’s motivations. My kits are really tight now. I’m breathing really heavy. I miss being in the sun and outside.

Read my crap" or why asymmetric social media is better. As far as I can tell social media breaks down into two models:. Symmetric - In order to read my stuff, I must read yours. Asymmetric - I can read your stuff, but you don’t have to read mine unless you want too. Facebook is a prime example of the symmetric model. In order to see your posts and interact with you, I must be your friend, which means that you must see my posts whether they interest you or not. What about revenue generation? Apache 2 serv...
