Thursday, September 25, 2014. I visited Rainier for the first time this past weekend. I will always remember the first look of the majestic peak as it came into view on a windy, wooded road that somehow blocked the magnificent view as long as it could. I will let the photos speak for themselves. Entrance fee was $15, which covered seven days. Other options are the annual pass for Rainier ($30) or a national parks pass for $80. Seniors can take advantage of a much better price. Sunset, approaching the top.

Saturday, April 25, 2015. Wildlife Wilderness Festival Great Smoky Mountains. As much as I love nature and the Smoky Mountains, it’s hard to believe I have never made my way to the Wildlife Wilderness Festival until 2015. Celebrating its 25. Anniversary, the festival has been held in Pigeon Forge at the LeConte Center, a modern facility with nice rooms big enough to accommodate decent crowds (although one class I attended was standing room only.). Wednesday, July 3, 2013. Illinois Beach State Park. I managed a couple hours away, on a brief stay in northern Illinois in early July. Always looking a good nature spot to explore, I decided to find a place to see Lake Michigan, which was under wind advisory with high surf. Monday, March 25, 2013. 3/15/2013 Porters Creek Trail Hike. The Greenbrier section of the Great Smokey Mountains is peaceful and relaxing, with some of the best views of the rivers in the park. Drive through to the Ramsey Cascades trail head and you'll cross over several bridges, with plenty of ops to pull over and enjoy the relaxing sounds of the water cascading over rocks.
