Maiscott & Rosen: Unwanted
http://maiscottandrosen.blogspot.com/2012/12/unwanted.html
For When the Muse Pays a Visit. Monday, December 17, 2012. Angelina Jolie tries to persuade Morgan Freeman to see things her way in Wanted. Originally posted July 8, 2008. By Mary Lyn Maiscott. While much of the world awaits Angelina Jolie’s delivery of twins, here’s what I’ve been wondering: How does someone who, by all appearances, wants to save the planet one child at a time (and you’ve got to be very cynical not to commend that) decide to act in a movie like Wanted. Of the cabal—I mean, fratern...

Maiscott & Rosen: May 2011

For When the Muse Pays a Visit. Sunday, May 1, 2011. The Meaning of Melanie. Melanie performs "Lay Down"/"Give Peace a Chance" at B.B. King's. By Mary Lyn Maiscott. Aging is an odd thing. While everyone’s face changes, some people retain a certain essential look, the decades notwithstanding. When Donna Summer materialized as if by magic on an NYC disco stage three years ago—remember the summer/Summer anthem “Stamp Your Feet”? Released last fall on Arpeggio Records. Those fantastic songs, interrupting the...

Blog de Libros sobre los Beatles: marzo 2012

Jueves, 22 de marzo de 2012. The Beatles: All You Need is Love (libro dvds) Editorial Emon. De verdad, no os gastéis dinero en este libro-dvd. THE BEATLES ARCHIVE, por Ray Connolly.

Maiscott & Rosen: Earle and More at the City Winery
http://maiscottandrosen.blogspot.com/2012/01/earle-and-more-at-city-winery.html
For When the Muse Pays a Visit. Wednesday, January 25, 2012. Earle and More at the City Winery. Steve Earle with one of his many guitars. By Mary Lyn Maiscott. Watching Steve Earle and Allison Moorer in concert Monday night at the City Winery brought to mind another musical couple: also-populist-singer Bruce Springsteen and also-redheaded-wife-and-musician-in-her-own-right Patti Scialfa (though Moorer is moorer, I mean more, of a strawberry blonde). And I thought: god, how we need these people. E...8212;...

Maiscott & Rosen: April 2011
http://maiscottandrosen.blogspot.com/2011_04_01_archive.html
For When the Muse Pays a Visit. Thursday, April 28, 2011. In our introductory essay. I’d parenthetically described Mary Lyn as a “singer and musician.” But that now seems unfair—her singing and musicianship are hardly parenthetical. At times they seem to be the dominant force in her life—more so than usual lately, as she’s recently begun performing in clubs again. This is the kind of material that you’d have once found on National Lampoon Radio Dinner. The harmonies are hilarious. Links to this post.
