CONTOUR drawing is like climbing a mountain, as contrasted with flying over it in an airplane. It is not a quick glance at the mountain from far away, but a slow, painstaking climb over it, step by step. GESTURE drawing is to be done FURIOUSLY. To learn to draw, both kinds of efforts are necessary, one balances the other. In concentration, one can act furiously over a short space of time or one can work with calm determination, quietly over a longer extended period. Directions of weight or pressure.

I love to draw. I am an artist living in Billings, MT. After finishing my MFA in California I moved here to live with my husband, who is also an artist. We own our own business and have spent a lot of time building an art studio downtown. We offer printmaking workshops and I teach weekly drawing classes to the public at present. Using a value scale is a good way to make sure you are working within a full value range. This corner of my studio has changed somewhat since this drawing so I had to make new thumbnails. I will keep this same composition. I am attracted to the zig-zag pattern that directs my eye through the drawing. Everything begins to loosen up. When drawing blind I am no longer concerned...
