Like all RobotX competitiors, Minion is based on the Wave Adaptive Modular Vessel (WAM-V) from Marine Advanced Research. The WAM-V features a pair of inflatable pontoons connected by a deck that holds Minion's sensors and computers. About the Communications System. An independent direct command and control link is maintained with Minion at all times using a frequency hopping, spread spectrum, commercially available RC system. The primary sensors are mounted to a custom designed detachable aluminum sensor masted above the main deck. The mast provides an excellent field of view for the cameras and the Velodyne and ensures that their position does not change relative to the PinPoint's localization solution. About the Computer System. Minion’s software architecture uses an event driven, self-monitoring, distributed computer structure designed to allow for the buildup of features, a process called complexity through iteration.
