Between Three Worlds: Earthquake
http://betweenthreeworlds.blogspot.com/2012/08/earthquake.html
Tales from the three worlds in which I live. Friday, August 31, 2012. I began getting half panicked texts from a friend. People in her neighborhood had run outside and were shouting "Earthquake! Repeatedly. People here traditionally believed that earthquakes are caused by a giant under the earth moving around and that if you make enough noise he will stop. They would run outside and shout and beat on pots and pans. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile. Interesting books I have read.

Between Three Worlds: January 2014
http://betweenthreeworlds.blogspot.com/2014_01_01_archive.html
Tales from the three worlds in which I live. Sunday, January 12, 2014. 73 degrees and we are freezing! It sounds ridiculous, but it actually feels chilly! It has been raining nonstop for 36 hours. I feel partly deaf from the incessant drumming on the roof – though for people who have a tin roof with no ceiling inside, well, they must surely be completely deaf! It is times like this we are glad we live on a hill. Here are some shots of what I saw:. Wednesday, January 01, 2014. A Veritable Sea of iPads.

Between Three Worlds: Toilet Training the Nation
http://betweenthreeworlds.blogspot.com/2012/06/toilet-training-nation.html
Tales from the three worlds in which I live. Saturday, June 23, 2012. Toilet Training the Nation. This was the rather provocative title of a recent news article discussing the state of sanitation in the second of my worlds. An official from the Health Ministry is quoted as saying that as of 2010 some 42 million people in the country still defecated in the open. But this was down from 71 million in 2007 so they have made phenomenal progress in three short years (if the statistics are accurate). In the art...

Between Three Worlds: The mall as oasis
http://betweenthreeworlds.blogspot.com/2012/06/mall-as-oasis.html
Tales from the three worlds in which I live. Thursday, June 21, 2012. The mall as oasis. While living in the Mega-City one of the oases is the mall. I did also shop a little as there were a couple of decent bookstores and a largish supermarket but I usually made sure I got a good walk in as well – up to the top and down twice! And she said she too felt the same way about that mall and so usually shopped at one further away. I wonder if the mall owners have any idea. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Between Three Worlds: February 2011
http://betweenthreeworlds.blogspot.com/2011_02_01_archive.html
Tales from the three worlds in which I live. Sunday, February 27, 2011. It's been awhile since I wrote, though not for lack of things to write about! It's been one of those rare cool spells here, dark and gloomy and threatening to rain any minute. I have actually been wearing a sweatshirt to bed for over a week now! I hear from the country south of here that they too have had a lot of rain recently and everybody's sick (colds). Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile. Child of the Jungle: th...

Between Three Worlds: September 2014
http://betweenthreeworlds.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html
Tales from the three worlds in which I live. Monday, September 08, 2014. Do you ever momentarily find yourself not remembering the name of a thing or person? But not wanting to stop the story to think of it you just substitute “what’s-his-name” or “whatchamacallit” or "thingamajigger" or "thingamabop" or "whosey-whatsy" or any number of similar terms. I have heard “anu” used several times in a single sentence! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile. Interesting books I have read.
