A wise climber once said “I am a bold climber because I know when to turn around” This statement rings very true for me as I have probably bailed off more climbs than I have made it to the top of. A stormy descent off Mt Bairnicot. Descent justified! Since then I have always tried to listened to that nagging little voice that says it ain’t right out today lets go home. One of my all time favourite trips is along the spine of Kawarau peaks ( this is what the Maori called the Remarkables as they travelled past to collect pounamu from the headwaters of Wakatipu).
