I wanted to make sure that she was represented in an appropriate amount of space too. I also attempted to balance the red and the blue, wanting each to be both primary and secondary. Thursday, March 12, 2015. Being a DC fan in the Marvel age (as well as my Wonder Woman drawing! I think the title for this post sums it all up. I am a DC fan. It is incredibly tough to be a DC fan when everybody on the planet loves Marvel. But why must everybody say DC needs to be doing it like marvel? Can't I have another option on how superheroes are depicted? It wasn't until later that I realized the solution was simple. I needed to stop reading from those sites and listening to those podcasts....

Thursday, July 31, 2014. Messing around with Manga Studio 5. I'm late into the game, but I just started messing with Manga studio 5's demo. I have to say, I'm VERY happy with the inking tool they have. So much so, I'm going to pick up the digital version of it! From what little I've dabbled in, it's already much nicer to use for my ink work than sticking with Photoshop, but it can still pop out PSD files. And it's pretty affordable: at less than 50 dollars for the digital copy. Doubly sold! Chugging alon...

Monday, March 30, 2015. Jack Kirby's Kamandi Artist's Edition. What could be simpler? When designing this Artist's Edition book, I was inspired by hazardous waste and radiation signs. I added a little grit and aging to everything to make it look like it's been exposed to the elements and it didn't hold up too well. I also kept the palette very basic and limited. Monday, January 6, 2014. Al Capp Biography Dust Jacket. My design version #1 dust jacket. My design version #2 dust jacket. Published version dust jacket. On version #2, I placed a dirty stained beat-up picture of Al Capp on top of a Sunday newspaper page of the Lil' Abner strip. I liked that the image wasn't a smiling happy glossy pristine photo. The picture has seen better days, and seems to elude to the darkside of Al Capp. I added the cigarette smoke to give it an illusion of dimension.

Friday, September 26, 2014. John Buscema's Silver Surfer Artist's Edition. John Buscema became the artist who defined Marvel Comics "house style." His figures didn't have as much exaggeration as Jack Kirby's, nor did they appear to be as highly stylized. Buscema's figures and story-telling seemed to be more grounded in "heroic realism."
