Rockhounding Adventures!: Gold Mine Road - Montgomery County Maryland

http://rockhoundsteve.blogspot.com/2010/09/gold-mine-road-montgomery-county.html

Follow Steve as he enjoys the great outdoors looking for rocks and minerals. Thursday, September 23, 2010. Gold Mine Road - Montgomery County Maryland. The history of gold mining in Maryland is very long and diverse. There have been many locations where placer gold and even minor lode gold has been found and mined. One of the oldest finds in Maryland is Brookeville. There is not much information readily available about the mine, but it is referenced by the MGS. Gold Mine Road and Reddy Branch. The stream...

Follow Steve as he enjoys the great outdoors looking for rocks and minerals. Wednesday, September 22, 2010. Catoctin Creek - Frederick County Maryland. Catoctin Creek road Crossing. There is a large outcrop in the landscape that causes the stream to divert at this location. It is a wonderful chance to see how the local rock formations are still at work eroding the valley and hills. Outcrop causing stream to divert around. Close up of stream pebbles. January 17, 2012 at 10:57 AM. A very surprising find!

Follow Steve as he enjoys the great outdoors looking for rocks and minerals. Wednesday, October 27, 2010. Central Maryland Rock and Mineral Collectors Exchange. Had the pleasure of attending my first meeting with the Central Maryland Rock and Mineral Collectors Exchange. I have been a part of this Meet-Up group for several months now, but my work schedule prevented me from attending meetings. Now that I have an adjusted schedule, I got to go to one. Everyone is encouraged to bring samples and specimens w...

Rock Hound Station 1 Global Rockhound Community

Welcome to www.rockhoundstation1.com. What is a rockhound and what is rockhounding? Rockhounding is the professional and recreational collecting of rocks and/or mineral specimens from their natural environment. Early rockhounds were prospectors looking for valuable minerals and gemstones for commercial purposes. Eventually, however, more and more people have been drawn to rockhounding for recreational purposes, mainly for the beauty that rocks and minerals provide. Amethyst: "a pretty rock". While the be...

Rockhounds Underway | cruising. rocks. adventure.geology

North Channel Road Field Trip. Rockhounds Underway want to share their love of cruising and knowledge of geology to enable others to understand the natural beauty they see on their travels. Rocks and geology sometimes get a bad name. Some people say they are boring, but we disagree. Nothing beats an old rock with a good story, discovered while underway. That's what we're doing, making rocks rock once again, while we are underway on our journey. What is a Rockhound Underway? Where are we going next?

Rockhounding, Minerals, Geology, Rocks, and Gems. Saturday, July 18, 2015. Fish fossil, Jalama Beach, California. Fossilization is a topic that is often poorly understood among the rockhounding community. At nearly every club meeting or field trip, there is always somebody picking up a random rock with quartz veins running through it, and insisting it is a fossilized animal of some sort. Or finding concretions and wondering if they are petrified dinosaur eggs. What is a fossil, exactly? These occur when ...
