Rehabilitation

http://rockleyfarm.co.uk/rehabilitation.html

The objective of rehabilitation is to improve hoof health, medio-lateral balance and biomechanics, allowing the horse to load its feet evenly and move correctly. Hooves are incredibly dynamic and given the right environment can change surprisingly quickly. These photos of the same foot were taken just over 8 weeks apart and show a significant improvement. Movement is essential and the best way of encouraging horses to move is to make it comfortable for them. However, rehabilitation often has as many down...

Our blog contains all the latest news, information about our own horses and updates on rehab horses: rockleyfarm.blogspot.co.uk. The blog is updated several times each week and has photos and video footage of horses at all stages of rehabilitation as well as clips of barefoot horses working hard on all types of terrain. There are also lots of posts about hoof health, foot balance, trimming, feeding and barefoot performance which are collected together on the Key Posts. There is also a page of rehab FAQs.

Facilities

http://rockleyfarm.co.uk/facilities.html

Rockley has just under 60 acres of land, much of it steep Exmoor slopes, with plenty of organic permanent pasture. All the horses spend a large part of their time on our tracks, which have different surfaces and which encourage good hoof development. We use pea gravel tracks and yards, together with an area of woodland, to provide stimulating but supportive surfaces for horses who are with us for rehabilitation. They don't live out, as they are always able to bring themselves in, nor are they stabled (ex...

FAQs

http://rockleyfarm.co.uk/faqs.html

I don't think my horse can go barefoot because he is crippled when he loses a shoe. F my horse improves after rehab, will I need special facilities at home to keep him sound? No; we aim to send horses home in a normal level of work and able to cope with a variety of terrain including roadwork. Provided you can exercise your horse consistently you shouldn't need conformable surfaces or tracks. You can read more about. Or on the blog's Rehab FAQs. What sort of foot problems is rehabilitation able to help?

Rockley Farm: Getting there...

http://rockleyfarm.blogspot.com/2015/08/getting-there.html

Barefoot performance and lameness rehabilitation. Film: barefoot in slow motion. Wednesday, 12 August 2015. I'm afraid progress on updating the blog with new photos and video for the rehab horses has been slower than I had hoped, due almost entirely to Apple's not-so-helpful recent "upgrade" (please insert maximum irony here) to its photo software. I've spent hours (with and without Apple's help! In the meantime by way of a sweetener I can at least offer you these fantastic shots taken of Em and Indy (wh...

Rockley Farm: Rehab FAQs

http://rockleyfarm.blogspot.com/p/rehab-horses.html

Barefoot performance and lameness rehabilitation. Film: barefoot in slow motion. At Rockley, we take horses for rehab on veterinary referral. Most of the horses who come here have been diagnosed with caudal/palmar hoof pain on the basis of nerve blocks. Some have navicular bone changes evident on X-ray, others have been diagnosed with deep digital flexor tendon, collateral ligament or other soft tissue injuries following MRI. Ou can search for any horse by name on the blog to see how its doing and. Horse...

Rockley Farm: Ella's 12 week update

http://rockleyfarm.blogspot.com/2015/08/ellas-12-week-update.html

Barefoot performance and lameness rehabilitation. Film: barefoot in slow motion. Thursday, 13 August 2015. Ella's 12 week update. The new growth is obvious from this angle and reaches about two-thirds down but importantly the new palmar hoof capsule is already on the ground. Ella's landing isn't extravagantly heel first but she does now properly engage the back of her foot. The shorter toe she will have once the new hoof capsule has fully grown in will also help to keep her landing heel first. Sorry - an...

Rockley Farm: Equus Maximus

http://rockleyfarm.blogspot.com/2015/05/equus-maximus.html

Barefoot performance and lameness rehabilitation. Film: barefoot in slow motion. Thursday, 21 May 2015. New boy Max, another Belgian warmblood, arrived yesterday. He was, like many horses, in remedial shoes but that wasn't the biggest worry for either his owner or me. The issue we had was that Max in the past hasn't been able to be safely turned out with other horses so his first day was going to be a challenge for all of us. So he has taken his first steps towards better feet and a better social life - ...

We are big believers in looking after our horses health they perform great acts of athleticism for us and their well being is of the upmost importance. Our fields are cleared daily, soil tested annually, seeded and properly rested to ensure great grazing all year round. Many rehab successes are coming out of Rockley Farm. In Exmoor where they are using the same barefoot/tracksystem as a way to rehabilitate horses from navicular, laminitis, tendon injuries, de-nerving, ligament damage etc.
