Rogue's View

Observations from the Left Coast. Monday, February 10, 2014. Bull calf rescued from coyote. Yesterday, as I sat eating breakfast with Nancy I heard an odd bleating sound coming from the back side of my cabin. Just a cow, it sounds like," she said. We continued eating and having a good morning conversation when the bleating started again. Only this time it was closer and more insistent. The little bull, about the size of a small dog, was clearly distressed. She had been left there by the other cows. I...

Rogue's View: Crazy comes to Cayucos, pretending to have a gun

http://www.roguesview.blogspot.com/2013/04/crazy-comes-to-cayucos-pretending-to.html

Observations from the Left Coast. Friday, April 12, 2013. Crazy comes to Cayucos, pretending to have a gun. We get our share of crazies passing through town. I met one yesterday at Kelley’s Coffee and Espresso Shop in Cayucos, and right away he took a dislike to me—and to just about everyone who crossed his path. Apparently he had been spotted waving a stick in a threatening manner at the middle-school up the road, pretending he had a gun. 8221; the window washer exclaimed. “That’s him! 8221; I nodded.

Rogue's View: June 2013

http://www.roguesview.blogspot.com/2013_06_01_archive.html

Observations from the Left Coast. Sunday, June 30, 2013. Ale House Tails (or love and sex in a small town). I rolled into town after a hot day on the farm, temperatures soaring close to 100, hot for a coastal farm just two miles inland from scenic Highway 1 that brings thousands of tourists to the area this time of year. In some ways, it's already a parade here long before the Fourth, days before the big weekend. Cars. Go round and round. The town was hopping and packed with strangers, some looked like c...

SewerWatch: June 2005

http://sewerwatch.blogspot.com/2005_06_01_archive.html

Thursday, June 30, 2005. You Can't Teach a Sneetch. There's no doubt about it. We would live in a much better world if we would simply follow the lessons of the great Dr. Seuss. For example. You remember that story, right? The Star-Belly Sneetches would brag to the Plain-Belly Sneetches, "We're the best kind of Sneetch on the beaches. And the Star-Belly Sneetches would shun the Plain-Belly Sneetches at playtime and social occasions. Eventually, nobody knew who was the "better" Sneetch. The obstructionist...

SewerWatch: July 2005

http://sewerwatch.blogspot.com/2005_07_01_archive.html

Wednesday, July 27, 2005. The Mangling of a Sewer Project. Six Years of Unimaginably Poor. Decision Making by the LOCSD. No matter how the sewer issue finally plays out, one thing is for sure, the Los Osos Community Services District's clumsy handling of the project over the past six years will become legend in civics circles. To be honest, I already hear the snickering and snide remarks from knowledgeable government officials when I interview them on this subject. In Los Osos. To complicate matters ...

Outfitting a simple Voyaging Sailboat. Getting it done (kinda). April 23, 2015. Holy crap does it ever end? One step forward, two steps, er…three steps…wait four, (five? Steps back. It’s almost like battling a hydra. Slice off one head and two grow back in it’s stead! You wanna know the cool part though? Our nightly view of the Seattle skyline. But I have problems. Well it’ll be quite some time before we find ourselves in the tropics right? I got time, yes? This whole project has been an exercise in inef...
