Searle made so many caricature drawings for Punch magazine's theatre review column I'm starting a second thread here, culled from my extensive but not quite comprehensive collection of Punch mags and clippings. I'll try to keep this in chronological order so we can observe his artistic development. Where possible I've included the relevant sketchbook images that Searle made 'on site' in the theatre. Saturday, September 13, 2014. I'm slowly piecing together Ronald's early, post-war career after he was liberated from captivity by the Japanese and returned to England. Even in the prison camp he maintained a tiny notebook with miniscule thumbnail ideas for cartoons in the belief that survival would mean resuming his career as a cartoonist which had started to take off just as he enlisted. Wednesday, July 30, 2014. Summer Exhibition of self-portraits. I wish I could make it to haute-Provence for this summer show of Ronald's self-portraits in the village where he lived. The town also unveiled a memorial plaque above the front (back? I was never sure! Door of his home. His daughter Kate was there to represent the Searle family. Saturday, October 23, 2010. Since seeing the Disney Disney Sample Portfolio. In 1996 and subsequently studying Glenn Vilppu's books. And promptly sat on a chair believing that to be dynamic! Anyway, now I've found a regular gesture drawing class here are my first results. 30 second warm-ups with the model in his karate outfit! Here we moved into longer, 2 minute poses. Still quite quick but the poses were great. The next model started off in a bikini and a large, floppy sun-hat for the 30 second poses.

Wednesday, June 25, 2014. Testing out a new stylus and sketching app from Adobe on the i-pad Air. The stylus is called Ink. And the drawing app is Adobe Sketch.
