Ron Buffington's Weblog

Ron Buffington’s Weblog. December 12, 2008. For the first time in 18 years of teaching I’ve instituted a collaborative project in my classes. Students in Painting I (sophomores, mostly) worked together at large tables, chatting, exchanging works in progress, and generally learning to open up to new possibilities. In the end these studies far surpassed the final paintings (which were not executed collaboratively), but not a single student made the mistake of being overly precious. September 24, 2008.

Ron Buffington’s Weblog. Ellsworth Kelly is still good…. September 12, 2008. Gnota is an acronym standing for the Guild of Non-Objective Tennessee Artists. Gnota was formed by John Tallman in an effort to promote non-objective art in the Southeast. The impetus for gnota was the exhibition Tennessee Abstract Painting, scheduled to take place at the Cheekwood Museum in 2009. Ideally it will transcend these parameters. Check out gnota’s blog. gnota: Conversation

http://gnota.blogspot.com/2009/03/ron-buffingtons-conversation.html

The Guild of Non Objective Tennessee Artists. Thursday, March 12, 2009. Is there something about the special in-betweenness of Tennessee that makes the question of abstraction alive for us? In short, abstraction itself lies "in between.". Why object-based pedestal sculpture? March 12, 2009 at 10:47 AM. Yes, Lain. I'd like to concur with you very strongly on this. I saw this on the Melton Prior Institut website."We are in a Post-Photoshop moment.". March 13, 2009 at 6:38 PM. Questions From Gregg Horowitz.

Light up the darkness

Light up the darkness. Just one of those days. Its been a while sin. Wow I havent posted in ages. Let me start of by . Tuesday, March 31, 2009. Just one of those days. It's been a while since I felt, down. I know, i'm only human. These past few days I have felt a range of emotions. It's been a while since I actually cried because I was feeling down for myself. A good friend of mine reminded me that one of my weaknesses is showing weakness. In all honestly, I am feeling like blah. Links to this post.
