Barefoot and Finding My Way. This entry was posted on January 15, 2015, in Uncategorized. Every dancer I know will tell you that there’s a stupid side. The narrative in dance class often goes like this, Okay, drop your hip while kicking out your foot at the same moment, make sure you’re turned to the diangle, keep yourself tucked under, pretty hands in your standard W and don’t forget to smile! And then you hear those dreaded words. All right ladies, turn around and let’s do the other side. In 5-6-7-8.

Barefoot and Finding My Way. I have always hated shoes. Shoes are uncomfortable, unflattering and annoying. I don’t know where this hatred began. I think I’ve always had it, the same way some people hate spinach or working out. (By the way, I have mixed feelings on both of those things.). But in the summers of my childhood, visiting my father in Colorado, I was a little freer, and I could do as I liked. So I went barefoot outdoors, most of the time. This is going to hurt. This is going to make me stronger.
