Ron's Pocketship Build

Thursday, January 12, 2017. Sanding, Sanding and More Sanding! If I sound like I am whining, I am. Just you wait if you are building! 😷😷 funny I found smiley face with a dust mask! But seriously, there is a lot and I will be at it for multiple more sessions. I will make the best of it and maybe put some small projects in here and there to break things up, but I am motivated to get it done. No real pictures, but I will take some of the finished product and post later this weekend. Friday, January 6, 2017.

Ron's Pocketship Build: Sanding and floor board work. "Frearson Bit Needed"

http://ronspocketshipbuild.blogspot.com/2016/12/sanding-and-floor-board-work-frearson.html

Friday, December 2, 2016. Sanding and floor board work. "Frearson Bit Needed". The bronze screws that came with the CLC hardware kit are different than Philips head screws. I am glad I read that on another blog. They use a special bit called a " Frearson Bit" . And like most non-professional boat builders, I didn't have one. I found the bits at Jamestown distributors, so I placed a order. They should be here any day. 1st pass of sanding with 80 grit. Work and personal life with the holidays have limited ...

Ron's Pocketship Build: November 2016

http://ronspocketshipbuild.blogspot.com/2016_11_01_archive.html

Saturday, November 26, 2016. Floor boards too short! I added a cleat to the front of the cleat that was already installed on bulkhead #8. This will allow me something to support the floor boards since they are too short. I have a work light to help the fillets cure since it is starting to drop in temperature in the garage. Added cleat curing with work light. I started to sand the port side in preparation for painting. Wednesday, November 23, 2016. I also moved my epoxy inside and plan to use smaller cont...

Sunday, January 29, 2017. Battery Platform and Sanding. I also put a coat of epoxy on both the battery platform supports and the cleats for the wire conduit. I will put another coat on them before sanding, priming and painting. Battery Platform with fillets for support and a coat of epoxy. I kept the lights on the epoxy for at least 24 hours to allow it to cure some. I will wait a few days until I start to sand, so they can fully cure. Another view of fillets. With all that sanding I am getting very clos...

Ron's Pocketship Build: Continued Floor Board work! Round over complete.

http://ronspocketshipbuild.blogspot.com/2016/12/continued-floor-board-work-round-over.html

Friday, December 30, 2016. Continued Floor Board work! I have removed all the floor boards and ran them through my router to round over the edges. I also completed the floor board lift out section on the port side and drilled finger holes to pull them out. I had to buy a new set of drill bits for my small drill press. I didn't have anything the size of 1" or larger. Lift out section completed. Epoxy curing on additional floor cleats I added to support the floor lift out sections. View my complete profile.

Ron's Pocketship Build: September 2016

http://ronspocketshipbuild.blogspot.com/2016_09_01_archive.html

Friday, September 30, 2016. More Fiberglassing aft section And Hints! I also applied 2 more coats of epoxy after work a couple days. I will sand later. For vertical surfaces use a brush. This is mentioned in the manual. I used a roller on the horizontal surfaces. Do more of a dabbing with the brush vs. brushing. The brushing does pull he fiberglass. If you do brush, use horizontal strokes on the vertical sides. The horizontal does not pull the fiberglass away from the fillet area. Today, I started off do...

Believe me, my young friend, there is nothing – absolutely nothing – half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats. Kenneth Grahame, The Wind in the Willows. It Won’t Float! June 10, 2014. As you might be able to tell from the long time between blog posts, my work on “Journey” came to a sudden halt around the first of April. When we first found out that our daughter and her husband were expecting a baby, my wife told her that we would buy the crib for our new grandson. “BUY a crib? 8220;Journ...

Believe me, my young friend, there is nothing – absolutely nothing – half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats. Kenneth Grahame, The Wind in the Willows. June 29, 2014. Can you believe it? I finally got back to working on “Journey! Anyway, the good news is that I am back on track! A little sanding… a little routing… and then I get to smelt lead! That actually sounds like fun… of course with all of the meth labs around here, I expect to receive a visit from our local law enforcement,...

Ok, so the truth is, that I’m not so patiently waiting. The last I heard from CLC (Chesapeake Light Craft) is that my Pocketship kit would be ready sometime around November 5th. Unfortunately, I think that I am worse than a kid waiting for Christmas. This entry was posted in Uncategorized. It Won’t Float! On A Lot Done&...

Believe me, my young friend, there is nothing – absolutely nothing – half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats. Kenneth Grahame, The Wind in the Willows. Blood, Sweat and Progress. March 22, 2014. I am beginning to wonder if I am on pace to be the longest Pocketship build of all time. Oh well, time will tell.
