Fergus Kelly : February 2012
http://asullenrelapse.blogspot.com/2012_02_01_archive.html
Saturday, February 11, 2012. Interview with Brian Marley. The following interview took place across a series of emails with Brian Marely. During 2011, looking at the background to my practice, my influences, my approach to composition, and some of the ideas behind the Long Range. Album Sincerest thanks to Brian for his encouragement and patience. What do you do and why do you do it? I’ve been passionate about music from an early age, and my love of the post-punk spirit of DIY and experimentation fo...

Fergus Kelly : December 2005
http://asullenrelapse.blogspot.com/2005_12_01_archive.html
Friday, December 23, 2005. Plug Pod, press play, push paint. And that's how the next eight hours went, pretty much, without interruption. Nothing else to attend to. All outstanding business tied up. No need to leave the building, or even the studio, except to void bladder. Nose to the grindstone under an anglepoise halo. Focus. Thursday, December 22, 2005. The older cameras had a part called the bellows, which neatly dovetails with the respiratory metaphor. Scene sucked in coats emulsion, ready for t...

Learning To Listen: Listening in the dark
http://richardpinnell.blogspot.com/2008/07/listening-in-dark.html
Wednesday, July 23, 2008. Listening in the dark. Does shutting down one of the senses make it easier to respond to one of the others? I’m no biologist, but I suspect not. How he makes it” moments. I found myself as much interested in the visual spectacle as the aural. I tend toward the eyes closed experience myself, though there is the non-minimal danger of actually nodding off; depending who's performing, the resultant snores may or may not enhance the evening. Of course, when someone like Lescalleet is...

Learning To Listen: July 2008
http://richardpinnell.blogspot.com/2008_07_01_archive.html
Monday, July 28, 2008. Pier today, gone tomorrow. I heard a sad piece of news driving to work today. the Grand Pier at Weston Super Mare, one of mine and Julie's favourite haunts burnt down early this morning, leaving only the base of the Grade II listed Victorian structure intact. What is it about piers and fires? Something to do with water and electronics not mixing too well? Since the beginning of the twentieth century there have been no fewer than 24 major fires recorded on UK piers. All this last we...

Learning To Listen: The long (not very) winding road
http://richardpinnell.blogspot.com/2008/05/long-not-very-winding-road.html
Monday, May 26, 2008. The long (not very) winding road. Yesterday, just for a change I went into London and attended the Tate Modern. Getting there early I took my usual stroll around my favourite haunts (For anyone that has visited in recent weeks and wondered where two of the Rotho Seagram paintings had gone to, I don't know either, but rest assured they are back now! I also had a potter around the Duchamp / Picabia / Man Ray show, which left me a little cold if the truth is known. The photo above by t...

Friday, October 02, 2009. New releases on Room Temperature. The culmination of about six months work has borne fruit in the form of two new CDRs on my Room Temperature. Label this month. Swarf. Is an 20 minute EP of four compositions created with acoustic recordings of bowed steel rods with sheet steel resonator. A full length album, Fugitive Pitch.
