Posted on August 4, 2015. The Griswolds Go To Jamaica. Ed and I just got back from a (let’s hope not) once-in-a-lifetime trip to Jamaica. To add to its allure, this particular resort was built on the grounds of Ian Flemming’s former home (the fellow who brought us James Bond). The resort is owned by Chris Blackwell. You can read the whole history here. But I found out that, in addition to creating this bonkers resort, he founded Island records. Not too shabby. All of the columns in the Bizot Bar are plas...

Posted on June 23, 2016. It’s All A Matter of Scale. I was so sure I was going to turn into the Queen of the Craigslist. You know the type: people who create spectacular houses/gardens/lives with nothing but 10 cent finds off of Craigslist. I secretly resent those people. They are like a slap in the face when you get lazy and just buy retail. But here was my chance! So, we head out on our Craigslist mission. The seller gave us a tour:. Ldquo;I’ll take it! Ldquo;Give it to me NOW! I had no idea what I was...

Posted on August 8, 2011. Better Homes and Gardens - Yeah That’s Me- Part 2. About a million years later, due to blog issues (read: user error), here’s part 2 to a photo shoot that happened on June 16! Never let it be said that I don’t know how to build some suspense. OK, onto the day. I woke up pretty scared out of my britches. These were some fancy people coming to my decidedly non-fancy house. One source of anxiety….I found out the stylist assigned to the shoot was one Annette Joseph. Yup, that’...

Posted on January 23, 2014. IKEA or Container Store is the Million Dollar Question. This is probably my least decorative but most useful post. Buckle up and take notes. I’m kind of an anomaly. My list of house-related fantasies does not have “super-duper closet” at the top, or even middle, of the list. That scene in Sex and the City, where Carrie’s seduction by Mr. Big is sealed when she walks through the closet that cost more than a Volkswagen…. Was completely lost on me. I made up that name, by the way...

Botanical Resin Jewelry (with some running, mountain biking and wandering thrown in for seasoning). Go To My Etsy Shop. Saturday, January 28, 2012. On such a tiny surface. So, you can tell I'm smitten. The thing is, she doesn't just make great jewelry, she also runs a great Etsy shop - called Tuckoo and MooCow. Which, for those of you as literarily-challenged as I am, is a reference to James Joyce. As most of you know, I decided to put some energy into my Etsy shop. This fall, and it totally worked!

Posted on April 25, 2014. Why a Magazine Photo Shoot Takes Me Back to the Days of Old Perms. Imagine you got an awesome perm about six months ago. No, it’s not 1985…this will make sense in about two minutes. Well, six months later, your hair dresser calls and says, “I just can’t stop thinking about how great your perm turned out! I would love to get a pic for my website! This is where the magazine comes in! Full admission, I’m no better, although I don’t have three boys to blame it on. So, when I got the...
