Thursday, August 23, 2012. Beer With a Painter: Dov Talpaz. Photo by Naomi Lev. Full disclosure: Dov Talpaz. Is one of my favorite people on the planet. I have known him for years, through the painters I’ve written about, like Paul Resika. But we became close friends more recently, after I wrote a catalog essay for the Painting in New York. Group, which he is part of. I was going through some transitions myself at that time – personally and professionally – and Dov, Chris. Who was there, called it “...

Real Art, Real Food: October 2011

Wednesday, October 19, 2011. Two quotes about unity in painting. The first by Milton Resnick, whose work was recently. On view at Cheim and Read. Resnick's quotation has been on my mind since I saw the show and flipped through the book of his talks. I like the way he sees an artist's work as a reflection of him/herself, his/her humanity. Resnick writes about that possibility that a painting can become a complete universe: an object that is a full realization of the artist. 1982, 80 x 60 inches. Simple te...

http://doriastories.blogspot.com/2011/04/wordle-is-fun.html
How a Storyteller thinks she's going to save the world, one story at a time. Saturday, April 2, 2011. I had a good time playing with a fun new software called wordle, in which one uses a specific selection of words to generate a "word cloud", or wordle. I generated this particular (below) wordle using content from this very blog! Thanks to fellow storyteller Karen Chace. Who shared the wordle web site with her friends and colleagues. StoryMomma: Anansi's Talented Children
http://doriastories.blogspot.com/2011/03/anansis-talented-children.html
How a Storyteller thinks she's going to save the world, one story at a time. Monday, March 14, 2011. For the past 10 weeks I've been working with a group of Kindergartners. Every Friday for one hour, we work out the kinks in a story that they will be group-telling for a live audience in just a few days. The story is one of my favorites, featuring one of my favorite tricksters of all times: Anansi the Spider. It's weird that I adore Anansi. Illustration by Gerald McDermott).
