Beer O'Clock: July 2015
https://beerclock.blogspot.com/2015_07_01_archive.html
Just me, having a beer or two, sharing my thoughts with you. Thursday, July 30, 2015. Last month, when I was reviewing radlers. I always imagined these fruity, low-alcohol beers being served on sunny pub patios, umbrellas shading the sun-glasses-clad, beautiful people who were enjoying the heat of the day. Radlers are for summer. There's a new radler that I tried this week: nowhere on the can is the word radler. Bongo Grapefruit Ginger Lager (2.9% ABV). Candied citrus with barley overtones. This is a rea...

What do you need? 5 in the morning. When Techies Do Marketing. LinkedIn, Privacy, and Notification – Let’s Discuss! A Box You Want to Uncheck on LinkedIn. August 10, 2011. Apparently, LinkedIn has recently done us the “favor” of having a default setting whereby our names and photos can be used for third-party advertising. A friend forwarded me this alert (from a friend, from a friend…) this morning. Devious. And I expect that you, like me, don’t want to participate. This graphic shows you how to. Tagged ...

Beer O'Clock: All Or Nothing
https://beerclock.blogspot.com/2015/08/all-or-nothing.html
Just me, having a beer or two, sharing my thoughts with you. Thursday, August 13, 2015. I abhor violence, will never watch a boxing match. I never understood the need to cheer on as two people pound the shit out of each other. But that's me: I'm a lover, not a fighter. Hopfenweisse (5.1% ABV). All Or Nothing (formerly Underdogs) Brewhouse. A murky, unfiltered apricot with a thick, creamy-white head that, together, reminded me of a Creamsicle. Editor's note: on December 1, 2015, Underdogs Brewhouse change...

Beer O'Clock: October 2014
https://beerclock.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html
Just me, having a beer or two, sharing my thoughts with you. Monday, October 6, 2014. New Kid in Town. Ottawa's beer scene is thriving: sometimes, it's hard to keep count. To date, I've counted about 18 breweries in the Ottawa region, from Pembroke in the west to Vankleek Hill in the east and from Gatineau to Merrickville—north to south, respectively. It's a good thing we craft-beer lovers are so darned thirsty. There still seems to be plenty of room on our palates. Here's a quick rundown of my findings:.

Beer O'Clock: Dinner Jacket O'Red IPA
https://beerclock.blogspot.com/2015/07/dinner-jacket-ored-ipa.html
Just me, having a beer or two, sharing my thoughts with you. Thursday, July 16, 2015. Dinner Jacket O'Red IPA. When I think of a dinner-jacket affair, with a tie—perhaps, tails—I do not think of beer. Instead, I think of champagne and caviar. But one look at this can and you think outdoors, the great wilderness, and beer. The "dinner" jacket that dons this beer can is a lumberjack plaid. Dinner Jacket O'Red IPA (6.3% ABV). Light toffee, subtle citrus, and malt. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). 1/5: I ...

Beer O'Clock: Speak Easy, Drink Well
https://beerclock.blogspot.com/2015/08/speak-easy-drink-well.html
Just me, having a beer or two, sharing my thoughts with you. Thursday, August 6, 2015. Speak Easy, Drink Well. Ottawa's latest brewery is set to open its doors tomorrow, August 7, and it is taking on a theme that harkens to prohibition. But it has no reason to hide. Located in the dark depths under the Lunenburg Pub, where once veteran pub, Alfie's, crammed the booze faithful into its tight space, brewer Marc-André Chainey is seeing his two-year (plus) dream come true. And, of course, beer. 5% ABV)—...

https://beerclock.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html
Just me, having a beer or two, sharing my thoughts with you. Thursday, July 17, 2014. This summer has turned out to be a great one so far, with lots of sunshine, near-perfect temperatures, and plenty of excellent beer to go with it. Also, when I think of summer, I think of getting out and enjoying the outdoors, with concerts, festivals, and all that the community has to offer. That's why, when I saw the colourful six pack from Collective Arts Brewing. And I was right. Collective Arts Brewing Ltd. Intense...

Beer O'Clock: June 2015
https://beerclock.blogspot.com/2015_06_01_archive.html
Just me, having a beer or two, sharing my thoughts with you. Wednesday, June 24, 2015. If you're a craft brewery and are in the process of creating your first radler, and you haven't yet come up with a name, I have two words for you. And, for me, not being able to resist a taste test, was all over the radlers that are available at the LCBO. Let's examine them in the order in which I drank them. Stiegl Salzburger Grapefruit Radler (2.5% ABV). It tastes exactly like a sparkling grapefruit juice. Highly...

Author Mother Wife Sandwich. Stories from the Road. When you go on a road trip, it’s inevitable you will come home with stories. At least, that’s the hope. What’s the point of adventure if nothing happens worth talking about? Like Dory says in Finding Nemo, “Not much fun for little Harpo.”. So here I present my little stories, such as they are. Story 1: Wayson Choy. In case you’re not familiar with this guru of a man, he’s a national treasure. A writer of the highest calibre whose novels ...What I did do...
