Ships that go bump in the Night: Every unhappy family is unhappy in its own way

http://www.rosscharlescole.blogspot.com/2014/05/every-unhappy-family-is-unhappy-in-its.html

Friday, 23 May 2014. Every unhappy family is unhappy in its own way. The full quote is "Happy families are all alike; every unhappy family is unhappy in its own way". These are Tolstoy's opening words to his 1877 novel, "Anna Karenina". This is a story of five people: Cyril, and his wife, Jennie; their children Irene, and Ross; and, Irene's daughter, Wendy. However, it is not their full story, just the part illuminated by the contents of a box which came into my possession in 2010. Gallery 1 : Before 1911.

Ships that go bump in the Night: Gallery 6 : After 1960

http://www.rosscharlescole.blogspot.com/p/fter-1950.html

Gallery 6 : After 1960. This image of Cyril was NOT in Wendy's case. There were no images of Cyril in her case. It was taken in February 1960 when Cyril went down to Sydney to attend the wedding of his neice, Sylvia Tonkin, who was the daughter of his sister, Sylvia Irene Veronica Cole. Cyril had turned 75 the previous month. This marriage did not last. By 1968 James was living alone, and eventually remarried. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Gallery 1 : Before 1911. Ships that go bump in the Night: Who are they?

http://www.rosscharlescole.blogspot.com/p/who-are-hey.html

Here are some of the people involved in this story, which is a sad and tragic story. Unrelievedly so. Ross Charles Cole, the only son, and second child of Cyril Cole. Cyril Cole, husband to Jenny, father to Irene and Ross. Jenny Cole, wife to Cyril, and mother to Irene and Ross. Irene Cole, first child, and only daughter, to Cyril and Jenny Cole. George Lever, husband to Irene, father to Wendy. Wendy Lever, daughter to Irene Cole and George Lever, niece to Ross, grand-daughter to Cyril and Jenny.

Ships that go bump in the Night: Gallery 4 : 1930 - 1939

http://www.rosscharlescole.blogspot.com/p/gallery-4-1930-1939.html

Gallery 4 : 1930 - 1939. Ross Cole, late '30s. He was a very athletic looking young man with a great affinity for the water. This is one of my favourite images from Wendy's collection. Usually, Jennie gives the appearance of being such a self-contained, restrained woman. This and the next image go together. Here Ross is hanging off the end of a boat, presumably fishing. Ross (second from left) and a bunch of mates on a boat. After his enlistment in the Navy in Sydney, Ross trained down to Melbourne, and ...

Plumbing the Deeps: Bowel Cancer Screening - FOBT and Colonoscopy

http://jstorry.blogspot.com/2015/01/bowel-cancer-screening-fobt-and.html

The last romantic . Saturday, January 24, 2015. Bowel Cancer Screening - FOBT and Colonoscopy. The waiting is over. The results were all clear. And, no cancer. I guess my wait was short in the grand scheme of things, but not in my mind. From mid-November to 23rd January. The weight that builds up is tremendous. And it is mostly carried singularly, and silently. For, really, what is there to talk about? No facts. Just fears. In June 2013, I spent 5 days in the public hospital with pneumonia. In June 2...

Plumbing the Deeps: The Water Diviner - good try, but no cigar

http://jstorry.blogspot.com/2015/01/the-water-diviner-good-try-but-no-cigar.html

The last romantic . Sunday, January 11, 2015. The Water Diviner - good try, but no cigar. I enjoyed this film, which I saw at Dendy Opera Quays at 9:30 Saturday morning. At that time there were very few people in the cinema, even though I'd had to queue for my ticket, so something was popular. Check for me please, but I think, right at the beginning of the film, the Turkish Major comes out of a tent, ready for the final charge in December 1915, sipping coffee. I felt certain he was sipping it from on...

Plumbing the Deeps: The year ahead for "the girls"

http://jstorry.blogspot.com/2014/12/the-year-ahead-for-girls.html

The last romantic . Wednesday, December 31, 2014. The year ahead for "the girls". As we enter 2015, Alannah is 4 years, and 5 months; Juliet is 1 year, and 3 months. My daughter will be working 5 days per week, with an early morning start, and home by 5:30pm. My SiL will have a later morning start, and a later evening finish. Effectively, Darren does the morning shift, and Kirsten does the evening shift. Get all my Family Tree documents in order. Collect and file my family history images. I always write ...

Plumbing the Deeps: My little Easter Bunnies

http://jstorry.blogspot.com/2015/04/my-little-easter-bunnies.html

The last romantic . Monday, April 13, 2015. My little Easter Bunnies. It is School Holidays here at the moment. We have just started week 2 of a two week break. This is for Alannah who is in her second year of Pre-school. Juliet is at Day-care, and they only break over Christmas-New Year. Along with this, they both caught a bug over Easter which caused vomiting and yellow noses. Charming, reallyt! They are gorgeous little girls. Love their art work. April 15, 2015 at 8:39 PM. Oh I love the drawing on the...

Plumbing the Deeps: The value of having one's marbles ...

http://jstorry.blogspot.com/2015/03/the-value-of-having-ones-marbles.html

The last romantic . Saturday, March 21, 2015. The value of having one's marbles . The words expleted out of him: "Boring? It's worse than boring.". As I turned the pages in the large print photograph album with Barry and Rosemary, I sensed movement offstage, right. With an as inconspicuous swivel as I could manage without doing my befuddled head in, there was Pieter, slumped in his chair, his walker parked beside him, waving an iPad at me. I still have not proved this. Hearing the still thick brogue in h...

Plumbing the Deeps: The Imitation Game lacks guts!

http://jstorry.blogspot.com/2015/01/the-imitation-game-lacks-guts.html

The last romantic . Saturday, January 3, 2015. The Imitation Game lacks guts! Being a film viewer, rather than a film maker, I hesitate to pan my second film in so many weeks. I am not an expert, but I do have opinions, and they must be given an out. So here goes . This film would not have been made if Alan Turing had not been a homosexual. The Dam Busters. There are two tweaks with linear time. We are given the back story of Turing's first love at school: a boy named Christopher, who mysteriously di...

Apr 10, 2015. After a week of intense troubleshooting and various soldering injuries I have finally finished my new pedalboard. And it is AWESOME. See for yourself:. So that fine looking board that all of my pedals are sitting on is made by an awesome Canadian company called Temple Audio. And I am incredibly proud to be their first UK endorsee. I got involved with Temple through a guy named Vincent Rice, who is the head of their UK distribution company Robothead Industries. Which is my ridiculously cool ...

Ships that go bump in the Night

Sunday, 25 May 2014. Here is the envelope for the long-awaited letter. Note, in the bottom left-hand (LH) corner: "PS: Dad's first". The reverse of the envelope heralds: "QUIS NON SEPARABIT", which translates as "Who shall separate us? At this point he knew he would sail for England the very next day, on a journey scheduled to last 70 days, 30 to Durban and another 40 to the UK. He was never to return. The Latin on the back of the envelope seems ironic down through the years. Saturday, 24 May 2014. Then ...
