Valentine’s Day/ Vanadis Day | Flame in Bloom

The Case for a Dancing Heathenry, Part 2. An ecstatic dance how-to →. Valentine’s Day/ Vanadis Day. February 14, 2010. Happy Valentine’s/Vanadis’ Day everyone! In my house, Valentine’s day is one of the most sacred holidays. It’s up there with Walpurgisnacht/May Day, Yule, and the Summer Solstice. And so, in my house, Valentine’s Day is the midwinter holiday of choice. And I call it Vanadis’ Day. I dedicate it to Freyja and Sjofn–the goddesses who have given me my loved ones. Here are some pictures:.

Getting to Know New Land on my Bike. Yeah, yeah, yeah, It’s been a while →. April 15, 2014. I am very upset about the news of the Kansas City shooting. I have family there. And then there’s the fact that reports are saying the perpetrator was an Odinist, which is just awful. Heathens United has started a fund for the victims, and I hope my readers will consider contributing. It can be found here. Getting to Know New Land on my Bike. Yeah, yeah, yeah, It’s been a while →. On the “handmaidens,” my distate for the term, and Sif | Flame in Bloom
https://flameinbloom.wordpress.com/2014/01/06/on-the-handmaidens-my-distate-for-the-term-and-sif
On our new home. On Virginity →. On the “handmaidens,” my distate for the term, and Sif. January 6, 2014. In order to go into more detail about my relationship with Sif, which is blossoming and which I intend to do on this blog, I first have to share something about Frigga’s “Handmaidens.”. Furthermore, I cannot figure out where anyone has found evidence that all of these goddesses are necessarily tied to Frigga. Sure, Fulla and Gefjion have cases to be made, but what about the rest? Alright, so back to ...

On a Heathen Public Piety | Flame in Bloom
https://flameinbloom.wordpress.com/2010/01/29/on-a-heathen-public-piety
We are our ancestors →. On a Heathen Public Piety. January 29, 2010. A few days ago, I went to the gas station to fill up my car. I was in New Jersey, so I sat awkwardly and waited for the attendant to come fill it up for me. The attendant was wearing a turban and had a long beard. Because of this, I know that he is a Sikh, and that he is pious. Whenever I go to a particular neighborhood near me, I know that many of the women around me are very pious Muslims. I know this because they wear burqas. The Wic...

On the Uniqueness of Place | Flame in Bloom

The Convergent Diverging Path →. On the Uniqueness of Place. September 9, 2013. Last weekend was my 10th anniversary with my husband. That’s confusing. Let me rephrase. We started dating ten years ago, when I was sixteen. We celebrated by going to Vermont to relax and enjoy nature. We had a great time. But we didn’t really take any photos. In fact, the only photos we did take were on a tour of a granite mine we went on. Vermont was beautiful, with forests so thick you couldn’t see into them from th...

On the “handmaidens,” my distate for the term, and Sif. On Paganism and Christian Privilege →. January 17, 2014. I’ve been sick this past week, so I’ve spent a lot of time sitting on the couch watching videos. I watched the BBC. Which I was quite impressed by. The BBC really does produce much higher quality content than American made-for-tv documentaries, which always feel so redundant and basic. Anyway, in the first section, “Sexy Beasts,” they talk about the Egtved girl. Who I have talked about. Obviou...

On Thor and Sif and Lofn. Kansas City Shooting →. Getting to Know New Land on my Bike. April 9, 2014. I moved to a new part of the country in December, as many of you know, from Philadelphia to Charlotte, NC. It’s in the piedmont region of North Carolina. Philadelphia is also in the piedmont, and I have lived in the South before, but Charlotte is a different combination of things, it’s own unique place. This connection to place I have found on my bicycle is a surprise to me. I had expected riding my ...

A (Blasphemous and) Funny Conversation with my Husband | Flame in Bloom
https://flameinbloom.wordpress.com/2014/02/11/a-blasphemous-and-funny-conversation-with-my-husband
On Paganism and Christian Privilege. A (Blasphemous and) Funny Conversation with my Husband. February 11, 2014. Necessary backstory: My (Christian) husband and I are always joking that he’s basically a dog and I’m basically a cat. So a few weeks ago, I was reading. How the Irish Saved Civilization. So I thought, if in Christianity, it is God who gives the blood sacrifice to man, does that make God the worshiper and Man the Gods? Cat: You pet me, feed me, play with me, love me … I must be a god! 8220;The ...

Crafty Time! | Flame in Bloom
https://flameinbloom.wordpress.com/2013/05/14/crafty-time
On Progress and Disembodiment, Part 1 →. May 14, 2013. Apparently Spring has me feeling crafty, since this is the second time I’ve posted a crafty post in early May. Lately I’ve been inspired by ReFashionista. To make some of my old clothes new again. I liked the neckline and shoulders of the tshirt, but not the shape of the body. So I cut off the bow, which I used to edge the neckline of the dress, cut down the middle front, chopped it off, and did some stitching and finagling, and ended up with thi...
