Friday, 16 May 2008. Left space form influenced by Adolf Loos. Right space form articulated by internal sight lines. Mirror Refection: the views. Figure descends stairs. They are narrower in the centre so that she slows her pace as she exposes herself to the spotlight (the adjacent space). As figure descends her naked body is slowly exposed to the other space. The opening is height defined so that her face is never exposed. This view represents the frame in which we view the figure in the painting.

Friday, 25 April 2008. Painting Partis and Models. A theme I wanted to explore in the painting was the idea that the figure in the painting is a feature in a show, an actor on the stage. People in apartment blocks look on as the figure leans towards the spotlight, exposing herself to the audience. The spotlight greeting this exposure. The relationship between openings and curtains. Friday, 21 March 2008. Studying the building through words. For further reading on Adolf Loos I recommend an article by David Leatherbarrow titled Interpretation and Abstraction in the Architecture of Adolf Loos. And is accessible via UNSW Library- JSTOR. The article doesn't focus on Villa Muller, but instead analyses Adolf Loos's architectural style and, more importantly, attempts to break down the thought patterns and intentions that drove the architecture.
