South East Asia 2012-13. Namxa Noy to Kiu Kacham. We stopped in town to pick up some sticky rice and pork chops for lunch, which we tucked away for later on. Soon after leaving Phou Khoun we had a great downhill section which lasted for about seven kilometres. Unfortunately, we reached the bottom far too quickly and then had to start climbing again! South East Asia 2012-13. Ban Naxay to Vientiane. With only 60km to Vientiane, we set off early and arrived by 11am. We were pleasantly surprised by the 20km downhill, downwind section into Vientiane which sped our journey. South East Asia 2012-13. Kiu Kacham to Luang Prabang. Our legs felt decidedly stiff after the climbing of the previous day, so we were grateful of a twenty kilometre downhill to start the day! Flying down the hill at speed in such an early hour can be very cold, so we each put on an extra layer or two for the descent. From my 11 month backpacking trip around Latin America in 2005/06, recording events as I travelled by car, bus, train, plane, rickshaw, canoe, sail boat, speed boat and ferry, eventually taking this route.
