Symbiosis: Species of the week: Golden Weavers

http://rpphotog.blogspot.com/2010/12/species-of-week-golden-weavers.html

A COLLECTION OF MEDIA CELEBRATING LIFE. Tuesday, December 14, 2010. Species of the week: Golden Weavers. These little birds from Africa’s east coast are in a sub-category of finches, all belonging to a category of “weavers.” They are named as such because of their impressively woven nests. Watching them build their nests are fascinating, and it’s certainly unique among the birds. All photographs taken by Roshan Patel. Species of the Week. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Symbiosis: Species of the Week: Gerenuk

http://rpphotog.blogspot.com/2010/11/species-of-week-gerenuk.html

A COLLECTION OF MEDIA CELEBRATING LIFE. Tuesday, November 30, 2010. Species of the Week: Gerenuk. Weight: 60 - 100 lbs. IUCN status: Near Threatened. Range: E. Africa, from Northern Tanzania into Somalia and Ethiopia. Named for their long necks, “Gerenuk” translates to “giraffe-necked” in the Somali language (sometimes people call them giraffe-necked antelope). These animals are fairly obvious to recognize, as no other antelope has such a distinct long neck. All photographs taken by Roshan Patel.

A COLLECTION OF MEDIA CELEBRATING LIFE. Tuesday, September 21, 2010. By Cristóbal Vila is pretty elegant. simple in concept, shows one of my favorite geometric natural occurrences, and simple but fitting music. Enjoy. The Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council ( BBSRC. Adorable, adorable sloths. I wish they were more present in my life. And according to this research, they DON'T sleep as much as we thought! Some chilled out rhinos. Here is a rare and unusual situation. Perhaps my favorite...

Layin' One Foot Down. Wednesday, February 1, 2012. Community, Homecoming, and the Commitment to Silliness. I wrote this back in October and it's been sitting on my computer unedited. Thought I would go through it one more time and toss it out there for the world to see. Hit me while I sat alone on the UC Terrace, a campus location WW and I had ruled with a benevolent iron fist when we should have been working on our thesisses (thesisi? Layin' One Foot Down. Saturday, January 19, 2008. When wolves attack Or: PR for wolf hunts? UPDATE 2/28/08: The Northern Rockies Gray Wolf has been delisted. What do you think? From the video posted on CNN.com, the footage shows a dirt track through the woods. This is not the city streets or the suburbs, but a wooded area outside town. People had even posted warnings that wolves had been seen in the area. So what did these women do to protect themselves? Don’t bring your dog into wolf country? Crawford, ...

Layin' One Foot Down: John Muir and Yellowstone National Park

http://layinonefootdown.blogspot.com/2011/01/p.html

Layin' One Foot Down. Sunday, January 16, 2011. John Muir and Yellowstone National Park. John Muir had an amazing handle on Yellowstone National Park. I recently read his article for Atlantic Monthly. The air is electric and full of ozone, healing, reviving, exhilarating, kept pure by frost and fire, while the scenery is wild enough to awaken the dead. It is a glorious place to grow in and rest in…. What is the name of the blue flower over there? Are you sure the little bag is aboard? 8221; A long ascent...

Layin' One Foot Down: General Philip Sheridan: Yellowstone Villain or Hero?

http://layinonefootdown.blogspot.com/2011/02/general-philip-sheridan-yellowstone.html

Layin' One Foot Down. Saturday, February 5, 2011. General Philip Sheridan: Yellowstone Villain or Hero? This is a quick hit kinda posting. A smattering of facts that by no means paints a complete picture of this man; just a few things and how they pertain to Yellowstone National Park. Our story begins during the Civil War, in which Philip Sheridan was a general for the Union army. He is not looked upon favorably in that part of the country. Professional hunters begin to trespass on tribal lands, and, by ...

Layin' One Foot Down. Saturday, February 5, 2011. Video Snapshot: Bison on the road. Bison are a regular occurrence along the wintry roads of Yellowstone. If you had a choice of pushing through chest deep snow or walking along a packed path that conveniently leads from one meadow to the next, what would you do? The bison aren't stupid, they'll take the road. Do the bison follow our roads or do our roads follow the natural migration corridors of the bison? The National Parks operate under "natural regulat...

Layin' One Foot Down. Wednesday, October 5, 2011. This I Believe: Disaster Movies Make Me Cry (And I'm A Dude). I listen to This I Believe. Here is my This I Believe Essay, "Disaster Movies Make Me Cry (And I'm A Dude).". And at the end of every disaster film, I’m always left disappointed. I always want to see where the people left standing will go next. How will they rebuild towns and cities? How will they fix things? What will they do with the rare opportunity to rebuild human culture?
