I grew through phases with each book: first it was Pat the Bunny. Followed by Good Night Moon. Then it was The Giving Tree. And finally Where the Wild Things Are. I loved Pat the Bunny. Grade students and I would rate this book 4 out of 5 stars. Each page in this book shows a child from a spoken language in the world and the way in which that language says hello. There are a lot of colors throughout the book: background color, hair color, skin color, eye color. A great page to serve as an example is page 30.

Teaches a lot of lessons that apply to elementary students currently and they should be exposed to. Here is a lesson plan. It shows each generation passing down the art of creating show quilts, and each person remaining strong, loving, and creative despite the difficulties of slavery, working hard to earn a living, and fighting for civil rights. The story ends with the author telling her own daughter the history of her family. This book was definitely a window book for me. Illustrated by Michael Spoon.

And I was surprised to find such common themes threaded throughout a lot of her books and the specific connections that we were able to see between Locomotion. And Miracle’s Boys.
