Amboy, CA is for all practical purposes a ghost town. Amboy is situated some 30 miles east from Ludlow, about 80 km west from Needles, and about 50 miles north of Twentynine Palms. Amboy is in the Mojave desert. Amboy has 4 main attractions from a tourist point of view:. Runs through Amboy and did so from 1926 to 1974. Route 66 attracts many, also foreign, visitors. Roy's is a landmark on the above Route and attracts many photographers and visitors. Part of the lure is the huge Googie-styled sign.

Some 6000 years ago. Amboy crater was formed. Some 500 years ago. Amboy crater became dormant after the sixth period of eruptions. Father Garces traveled over Indian paths from Needles towards Barstow and on to Los Angeles via Victorville and Cajon Pass. Today we left Sedona and then backtracked a few miles east on 66 to visit Meteor Crater where a meteor left a well preserved HUGE HOLE in the desert. We had to pass it by on the way in due to time constraints but it was well worth the time to go back for. After taking the day exploring the canyon we finally reached our destination for the night well after dark! For a whole lot of pictures. Get Your Kicks on Route 66.
