In the pre-liberalization era, these guys would stick there neck out and work hard to make themselves count and try to match better performing guys in the next appraisal cycle and try to outperform the achievers ( Such a healthy competition can be used by an effective manager/leader to the organization's advantage). The company in question is a US based MNC which is primarily leverging the cost arbitage to drive efficiencies for its US product development and professional services work.( Like most captive offshore units set up in India in the last decade.).
