Most people are accustomed to looking through glass, I am looking at it. My love is for European mouth blown stained glass. It is produced by master craftsmen using traditional age-old techniques. It sparkles with life, colour and texture. Also drawn to the light, shadows, colours and textures in nature and driven to recreate its essence; the tranquility of the quiet woods, a tangle of branches, the way sunlight slants across the leaves in a forest. 124; the glass. Mouth blown antique glass is "stained" by mixing various metal oxides into the glass while it is still molten . cobalt for instance creates cobalt blue, gold is used to create red. In full antique glass, these metal oxides are added by hand from secret formulas or at the whim of the glassblower, creating a unique hue never to be duplicated. Mouth blown glass is the traditional way to produce glass. The success of this old technique relies on the skill of a master glassblower. 124; the glass.

Is an ever changing work of art. With sunlight, it moves out into the room, splashing colours across the walls and floors, transforming the room; reaching out and touching you where you stand. I am continuously inspired in the studio by the most beautiful mouth blown antique glasses. Some with such intense colour, others subtle, yet both with a life and texture so appealing that I feel compelled to keep looking into their depths.
