Friday, April 23, 2010. I remember coming across this ongoing series a while ago. I didn't follow it all that close. At 23, Alicia Parlette, was diagnosed with cancer. At the time, she was an intern that became a copy editor for the S.F. Chronicle. She passed away yesterday. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile. The Cancer Blogs: January 2009
http://mycancerchronicles.blogspot.com/2009_01_01_archive.html
Monday, January 19, 2009. Stopped Reading "It's Not About the Bike". I put down Armstrong's book late last week. At the moment, I couldn't explain myself, but the reading was very unsettling. I quit about 100 pages in, not long after the beginning of chapter five "Conversations with Cancer.". Armstrong and I went through the same treatment for testicular cancer: bleomycin, etoposide and cisplatin. The nurses kept strict notes. Down to the minute the injections began. Then I started to unravel. I've r...

Monday, March 2, 2009. El Brujo de Lujo. Francisco "on stage" at the Brujo's home. The woman to his right is trained opera singer and the dude with the guitar played a handful of huapangos (argueably). That's Rafa on bass guitar. Sorcerer, conjurer, wizard, warlock, a male witch, (LAm.) Medicine mn. Profuseness, extravagance or excess in pomp, dresses, far, etc.: superfluity. luxury, finery. Vivir en el lujo. To live in luxury. From Velazquez Spanish and English Dictionary. So an appointment was made.

The Cancer Blogs: Remembering Consuelo
http://mycancerchronicles.blogspot.com/2009/03/remembering-consuelo.html
Monday, March 9, 2009. Since I left Tucson, I have been meaning to gather some of the stories and memories of Consuelo committed to ink and computer code. Here's a special one. From Neto Portillo, Jr., a friend and fellow reporter from the Arizona Daily Star. And lastly this one. By Olga Briseno, who remembers Consuelo alongside Cesar Chavez and Lorraine Lee. I have to be honest. It still shakes me to come across virtual altars or memorials to her in social networking sites like myspace and facebook.

The Cancer Blogs: September 2008
http://mycancerchronicles.blogspot.com/2008_09_01_archive.html
Saturday, September 27, 2008. Had my first blood draw in L.A. yesterday. it was on the UCLA campus. So here's the thing. since I'm in between. Full-time insurance companies, my plan is to have the blood draw in L.A. with the results to be faxed to my oncologist in Tucson. I don't want to get an oncologist under Cobra then have to do it all over again once my new health-care. Coverage kicks. too much run around. So we'll see if this interim plan works. Friday, September 26, 2008. But I'm in Los Angeles no...
