With Fail: October 2012
http://withfail.blogspot.com/2012_10_01_archive.html
Pursuing the opposite of perfection, in parenting and parts unknown. Friday, October 19, 2012. Rooster in the Fire. Keeping true to the theme of this blog I have again failed to post much at all. I did manage to publish a couple of pieces for Modern Latina. The articles center around motherhood issues - being a bit kinder to ourselves. And being mindful of how we talk to our children. An old bird can be plucked, roasted, counted out and still rise to sing out once more. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). You kn...

My Dead Grandmother: Under Fire
http://mydeadgrandmother.blogspot.com/2013/02/under-fire.html
Blogging the life of my sometimes crazy, often angry, always tough Portuguese grandmother. Thursday, February 7, 2013. My car caught on fire. Part of not understanding Vovó is not being very aware of Portuguese culture. I was born in the U.S. to parents who had been here for decades. Were my family's behaviors a product of ethnic identity or just who they happened to be? The small house on A Street. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Chronicles her journey as a writer. She is not afraid of dinosaurs.

My Dead Grandmother: April 2013
http://mydeadgrandmother.blogspot.com/2013_04_01_archive.html
Blogging the life of my sometimes crazy, often angry, always tough Portuguese grandmother. Thursday, April 4, 2013. My grandfather Avô Gilberto died a few months after I was born so I only know him from stories and photographs. I'm told he was a larger-than-life character, quick to joke and a well-known figure in the Portuguese community. He had worked as a journalist in Portugal and after coming to the U.S. he started his own newspaper, Voz de Portugal. I love this fake publicity still. Life in the Sun.

My Dead Grandmother: Fighting Words

Blogging the life of my sometimes crazy, often angry, always tough Portuguese grandmother. Thursday, February 14, 2013. You're just like Vovó.". This softened some as she drifted into extreme old age. She still picked fights, still tossed out casual insults at family dinners, like the Easter when she was introduced to the fiance of a family friend. She took one look at him and said, loudly, "Why would you marry this fat bald old man? Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Life in the Sun.

My Dead Grandmother: January 2013
http://mydeadgrandmother.blogspot.com/2013_01_01_archive.html
Blogging the life of my sometimes crazy, often angry, always tough Portuguese grandmother. Thursday, January 31, 2013. Vovó Flora was forgetful and confused the way a lot of elderly people are. Senile dementia makes you hazy on time frames, unsure about who people are, and prone to agitation and disturbed planning. There's no fooling Vovó Flora. There is no arguing with that. Thursday, January 24, 2013. Thursday, January 17, 2013. A Tale Of Two Sisters. When I reflect on the non-grandmotherly ways. There...

Pursuing the opposite of perfection, in parenting and parts unknown. Tuesday, February 11, 2014. A Month Without Yelling. Then: Yelling. 8221; they say. “You need to help. Us It’s not faaaaaaaaair. And I lost it. A full-on screaming tirade. An angry list of all the things I do for them, have been doing on my own all day, still have to do, and they need me. To pick up their toys? Pick them up into a garbage bag is all I’m going to do! I was loud, angry and relentless. But at what price? Obviously this is ...

Pursuing the opposite of perfection, in parenting and parts unknown. Tuesday, June 12, 2012. Grease 3 - This Time It's French! As a fan of Grease 2. On Facebook (What, you're not? I was informed that yesterday was film's 30th anniversary. My sister in-law asked me if I really liked it better than the original. For me, that's like asking if you prefer Star Wars. One is a beloved classic, the other a silly, over-the-top spoof. Of course that's not what the creators of Grease 2. We loved that movie. We ...

With Fail: Liberace Party: Food, Booze & Shenanigans
http://withfail.blogspot.com/2013/05/liberace-party-food-booze-shenanigans.html
Pursuing the opposite of perfection, in parenting and parts unknown. Thursday, May 30, 2013. Liberace Party: Food, Booze and Shenanigans. My last post went into exhaustive detail about the elaborate decor for Liberace Party. But a good retro party needs more than just looks. On-theme food, drinks, and entertainment are what makes a night memorable. Part two : booze. Compare to my bar, where quantity /= quality. Bravely sampling some nasty candy-filled concoction I apparently whipped up. Alas, by the time...
