John's Running Blog. Preparing for the Marine Corp Marathon. Laquo; Training Complete. Marathon #11 Complete ». It’s almost show time! Yesterday, we spent some time at the Expo. Wow! Great expo and some good deals. Prior to this, I thought the Expo for the Phoenix Marathon was great. I was less impressed with Chicago. The DC Expo was fantastic. Lots of booths, quick and easy bib pick-up from Marines. You bet but will I? This is the year. This is the marathon to reach my goal. What is the goal then?

The alarm went off at 4 am this morning. Time for the pre-race ritual, OJ, tea, banana and bread and, of course, multiple trips to the washroom. No matter how many races one does, it’s always the same. The night before, you really don’t sleep that well and in the morning you spend a lot of time in the washroom. DC here I come!

This week is about rest, nutrition and mental preparation. Rest: My running pattern is off a bit. With the minimal running this week, I am sleeping in later than I have over the past weeks. Additionally, I am getting to bed about 10 to 15 minutes earlier. I want to arrive at the start Sunday morning at 8 am well rested and ready to go.
