Running Against Time

A Runner in his early 30's seeing how good he can be. Monday, November 30, 2009. The Cut that Won't Go Away. Posted by Greg @ 1:28 PM. Thursday, November 26, 2009. Happy Thanksgiving - Day 20 Post-Op. I'm extremely thankful for the 3 miles I was able to slog through this morning. It was my first run outside (on concrete) since the surgery, and while I still have a ways to go to be able to handle a true marathon build, I'm gaining confidence that in another month I'll be there. A Runner in his early 30's seeing how good he can be. Tuesday, November 10, 2009. Day 4 - Post Op. Today was the first day we're I actually feel like I have realistic shot at running again this year. Up until now, the thought of running on my foot kind of made me sick to my stomach, but today for whatever reason, I have a bit more confidence. Hopefully that confidence will continue to improve as well. Posted by Greg @ 11:37 AM. Illinois, United States. View my complete profile. Healed and Ready to Go.

A Runner in his early 30's seeing how good he can be. Friday, November 13, 2009. Thursday was more of the same, but the walk was much better and if I didn't have a gigantic boot on my foot, you probably wouldn't even know that I had surgery 6 days ago. The limp was almost completely gone and other some occasional shoots of pain, things felt good. Posted by Greg @ 1:32 PM. Hey, thanks so much for creating this blog! How has your running been? A Runner in his early 30's seeing how good he can be. Thursday, November 19, 2009. Day 13 - Phase 2 Begins. Of course, the actual removal turned out to be no big deal. It didn't hurt at all, except for a few little tugs and it was over in about 2 minutes. I still managed to work up a pretty good sweat as I was sure that as each new stitch got cut, the student assigned to the task would surely lop off half my toe. Posted by Greg @ 11:46 AM. I am in the consultation process on this procedure for my right foot. Havent run in a long time, and walking is becoming painful - it is probably time to bite the bullet and get it done. I dont think Ill try to beat your off the pain meds time, though.Im too much of a wimp! Thanks again for documenting the experience. Illinois, United States. View my complete profile.

The Journey

http://distance-runner.blogspot.com/2009/12/rocket-city-marathon-12-december-2009.html

Wednesday, December 16, 2009. Rocket City Marathon 12 December 2009. I arrived in Huntsville on Friday around noon and just kind of hung out until late afternoon. I went over to the expo to get a couple of things and my packet. Bart Yasso was the guest speaker at the carbo dinner that night- what a great guy and speaker. I really enjoyed his speech and am enjoying his book. I ended up with a time of 4:11:11 so I didn’t hit the 3:50 I wanted but those are just numbers. Looking back- this whole trainin...

The Journey: April 2006

http://distance-runner.blogspot.com/2006_04_01_archive.html

Monday, April 24, 2006. Recap of week beginning 04-17-06:. The week started off pretty good but ended up with a very busy weekend and no runs. It was a drop back week (of sorts) so I wasn't real worried about getting anything over 10-12 miles in over the weekend, but with the timing of all of the plans for the weekend I didn't get any in. Mon, 04-17: No run. Tues, 04-18: 3 miles. Wed, 04-19: 5 miles. Thurs, 04-20: 5 miles. Fri, 04-21: 6.1 miles (2 mile warm up, 5K race, 1 mile cool down). I shouted back ...

http://runwithtom.blogspot.com/2007_10_01_archive.html

A blog about aspiring to be the best dad, husband, and runner I can be. Monday, October 29, 2007. Just over 40 miles this week, still on the easy train. Wed: 5 ez massage. Thu: 7 at LR pace with a few mid 6s mixed in. The calf is doing much, much better this week than last, although I think I may have jumped the gun a little with a faster run and a 12 miler. There's not really any pain, just some soreness. I didn't even notice it during the long run, but did feel it a bit on Monday morning. So I've compl...

Just over 52 miles. Mon - 5 easy. Tues - 5000 on the track, 16:54, led for about a mile and a half to. Pace a friend to a PR, 2nd OA. Wed - 5 easy.

A blog about aspiring to be the best dad, husband, and runner I can be. Friday, December 21, 2007. But what a difference 24 hours makes! By lunchtime Thursday it felt great, so I got back on the treadmill Thursday night and only felt the slightest bit of tightness. And after a half mile, not even that. Just 3 miles of nice easy pain-free running at 9:30 pace. Best 3 miles I've run in a long time! Now I just need to work on not being so stupid! Tuesday, December 18, 2007. Monday, December 17, 2007. A blog about aspiring to be the best dad, husband, and runner I can be. Monday, September 22, 2008. Philly Distance Run - 9/21/08. This Sunday was the Philly Distance Run. This was my 3rd time running the PDR and my 3rd HM. My goals going in were to PR and run 1:15. Also ran this race as her first HM with a local friend - Alexis. Both got their goal with and both PR'd with a 1:55. I am so excited and proud of them both! The plan worked and around mile 8 I caught the guy. Looking at my splits now, it ...

The Journey: October 2006

http://distance-runner.blogspot.com/2006_10_01_archive.html

Monday, October 30, 2006. Another good week on the base building and enjoying running. I was surprised at how well my 10 miler went on Sunday. No stops at all- just smooth, easy run. The temptation was there to add a couple more miles because it was feeling so good but I decided to stop with the planned 10 miles and end on a positive note to take in to my next week of running. Mon- 10-23: No run. Tues- 10-24: 3 miles. Wed- 10-25: 5 miles. Thurs- 10-26: 5 miles. Fri- 10-27: rest day. Sat- 10-28: 5 miles.

The Journey: March 2006

http://distance-runner.blogspot.com/2006_03_01_archive.html

Monday, March 27, 2006. Due to an overall lack of training, I decided I was going to make this a training run or slightly faster depending on how I felt. I decided that my overall goal would be 1:45. We left for Knoxville mid day on Friday and it took forever to get there. Should have been about a 4 hour drive, but with traffic and a slow restaurant, it took just over 6 hours. We found our hotel and headed to dinner and a relaxing night. The race started and we immediately started up a hill. I though...
