Watching my garden grow

Watching my garden grow. Sunday, August 10, 2014. Recent inspirations in my garden. I love color. For those who know me - you know the inside of my house is painted many different colors - and I almost always wear colorful clothes. It's my feeling that colors emit emotions, energy and excitement! I love this color combo of the blue agave and purple heart. Or this colorful Croton in the yellow pot, with the variegated ivy. The backdrop is cast iron plant, ferns and silver dragon liriope. What can I say - ...

Watching my garden grow. Monday, March 4, 2013. Hey You - look at me! On one of my recent visits to the Red Barn Nursery. With Ally of Garden Ally. I saw this so cute and sweet small shrub. It had these tiny pink flowers and called out to me - 'hey you - look at me! You want one of me in your landscaping, don't you! What can I say - but of course! Oh, that's Maggie in the background - my female alpha corgi. I just LOVE those pink blooms! Isn't it a cutie! March 4, 2013 at 7:47 PM. Ooh, that IS a cutie!

Watching my garden grow: March 2012

http://runninggardener.blogspot.com/2012_03_01_archive.html

Watching my garden grow. Monday, March 12, 2012. New happenings in my garden. Remember my Japanese Maple Trees I bought from a nursery in OK. Here they are today - looking very nice with pretty red leaves. They're still in big pots as I'm still working on their exact placement in my yard. I want to be sure the shady area I've picked really is shady once we get into the heat of the summer. This one is the 'Acer disectum (laceleaf) weeping Crimson Queen'. Love the lace leaves. Do you hate weeds? Go Away, I...

My new waterfall and grotto | Getting Grounded

https://getgrounded.wordpress.com/2014/06/30/my-new-waterfall-and-grotto

Gardening in Austin, Texas. It's not for sissies. My new waterfall and grotto. I had a vision for the new pond/waterfall. I penned a ton of inspirational photos onto Pinterest, and I also had it in my head. Definitely a natural look, softened by not having any rectangular shapes. And I did the job ourselves. First, we had to do a little hard work. And by “we”, I mean Lori. Next came the heavy duty liner on top of the carpet. That’s actually not a rock! I need something to cover the water spill tank, and ...

Back in the Saddle | Getting Grounded

https://getgrounded.wordpress.com/2014/03/09/back-in-the-saddle

Gardening in Austin, Texas. It's not for sissies. Back in the Saddle. Many things bit the dust in 2011. Subsequently, in 2012, I posted about things other than gardening, and then, finally, nothing at all. I got very busy with a new job venture, and gardening went by the wayside other than maintenance. Pretty, but too much work to maintain. Everything else now in the bed is either evergreen or a bulb/tuber (Iris, Society Garlic, Creme de Menthe Pittosporum, daylilies, Lambs Ears, Crape Myrtle, Mountain L...

Chihuly Night at the Dallas Arboretum | Getting Grounded

https://getgrounded.wordpress.com/2012/05/26/chihuly-night-at-the-dallas-arboretum

Gardening in Austin, Texas. It's not for sissies. Chihuly Night at the Dallas Arboretum. This is a small piece of a huge “tree” of glass set amidst other flowers; it was easily 20 feet tall and 10 feet diameter. Prominent artist Dale Chihuly has his traveling installation on display right now at the Dallas Arboretum. It is also a gorgeous time to visit the lush gardens of Big D, so last week I took a couple of days to visit there. Lotus flowers in the entrance waterfalls. The Dallas Arboretum is nestled ...

Backyard Makeover, The Plan | Getting Grounded

https://getgrounded.wordpress.com/2014/03/09/backyard-makeover-the-plan

Gardening in Austin, Texas. It's not for sissies. Backyard Makeover, The Plan. It all started with a rotted board in the deck. What could have been a fairly minor deck repair has morphed into a total backyard makeover. Well, that’s gardening, right? My 30-year-old deck has been repaired almost every year for the past 10 years. When I stepped through a rotten board last fall, I knew it was time to stop patching and make major changes.*. Here’s how the thought process went. See if you relate! 4 Create a ne...

Running Gay

A chronicle of the challenges of being a sub-elite athlete while also being gay. Does it get better? Saturday, August 30, 2014. In total around 40 minutes of freestyle in a heavy sea. It was fantastic. Wednesday, August 20, 2014. I have had my first injury! Saturday, July 26, 2014. Here we go again. I have made it to Nova Scotia and I am back...
