RUNNING RAGGEDY: Dry mouth and running - WARNING

http://runningraggedy.blogspot.com/2015/07/dry-mouth-and-running-warning.html

Dry mouth and running - WARNING. It had been 8 months since my last visit. Looking up from the chair I noticed yet another picture had been added up above. A snap of the Great Wall in all its glory that included my dentist smiling at the camera. Or was he smiling at me? Each time I swear I could see my dentist grin beneath that mask of his as he mentally tackled complex arithmetic in his head. X Y = new boat. He sent me on my way with a new appointment and doctor prescribed enamel hardening toothpaste.

RUNNING RAGGEDY: Unshackling

http://runningraggedy.blogspot.com/2015/08/unshackling.html

That completes my 3. My Thursday 10k run started like they usually do. A gradual grind with effort to begin as I search for my running legs after a day where they’ve just dangled uselessly from my work chair. This unshackling process mercifully doesn’t take as long these days and I put that down to the numerous work breaks I now take to do planks. I am getting better. 11 August 2015 at 19:33. Or your fashion - leave short shorts and white Nikes to Scott Brown. 14 August 2015 at 08:06. IN THE LONG RUN.

RUNNING RAGGEDY: Rotorua Marathon 2014

http://runningraggedy.blogspot.com/2014/05/the-rotorua-marathon_4740.html

Dad took this one of me coming in with 300m to go. Don't be. Fooled with how relaxed I look. My left arm had cramped so. Badly I thought it had fallen off leaving nothing but nerve endings! The traffic ahead of us was unprecedented for a little town like Rotorua. Had I factored in the 50. Event with 10,000 runners and support crew all converging at one time, asked my wife looking straight ahead? I asked the guy next to me what the time was. He said 6 minutes to the start. Where the hell was she? I’...

RUNNING RAGGEDY: The Friendly Games

http://runningraggedy.blogspot.com/2014/01/the-friendly-games_26.html

This week marked the 40th anniversary of one of our most significant sporting achievements. The 1974 Commonwealth Games held in Christchurch. 1276 competitors from 38 countries battled over 10 glorious days in front of jam packed stadia, in perfect weather and to the tune of a theme song that still pulls at the heartstrings of us parochial kiwis. And to think all of which was broadcast for the first time in colour television! Steve Allen singing the Games song. 3 February 2014 at 16:59. Successful Half i...

2011 Tokyo Marathon. Leaders at 6K. Stuck out my arm, pushed the iPhone camera button. Complete luck. October 26, 2014. Managed an Easy 10K. Week of Oct. 20 26. So I jogged a bit on Thursday, 6k on Friday, a bit on Saturday and then did 10k on today at the Namban Rengo 10K, Half and barbecue. Did it in 50:03, so 5:00 per k, which is better than a jog but certainly not a quick pace. It was a bit sore, but didn't get worse, so that was good. At any rate I was actively recovering today, I hope. Anyway, rest...

2011 Tokyo Marathon. Leaders at 6K. Stuck out my arm, pushed the iPhone camera button. Complete luck. March 23, 2015. Back to Running.Slowly. Hamstring Exercises. Week of March 16 22. Hello I'm happy to say that I ran every day this week. 3k, then 3.5k, then a whole 4k! Just 1k at a time, then a walk break. Slowly, slowly.meaning slow pace and slowly working my way back. No pain in the hamstring or anywhere. But I'll be very cautious for a month. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Serious runner since age 34&#4...

2011 Tokyo Marathon. Leaders at 6K. Stuck out my arm, pushed the iPhone camera button. Complete luck. January 27, 2015. Week of Jan. 19 25. Managed 40k last week, in 5 runs. Easy pace, but was able to pick things up a bit on the Sunday 10k. Nothing seems to be hurting, so.so far, so good. Weight is about 61kg, 3-4 over what it was in the fall, so I will work on that. I expect to be shocked by how slow Wednesday's 5,000m time trial will be. January 18, 2015. Legs Seem to be Ok. 16-25 - Remained sore.

Week of June 23 29. 593km / 36.8 mi. 2:30 - 5.9k very easy. 2011 Tokyo Marathon. Leaders at 6K. Stuck out my arm, pushed the iPhone camera button. Complete luck. February 2, 2015. Another addition to my now comical list of injuries — I managed a week of actual running and then tried the 5,000m time trial last Wednesday. Ran 3k in about 4:15/4:30/4:25 and 200m later my hamstring started to pull. Not the previous injury, just because I hadn't tried to run that "fast" in about 10 weeks. I didn't think it was fast, but apparently my hamstring did. IN THE LONG RUN.

2011 Tokyo Marathon. Leaders at 6K. Stuck out my arm, pushed the iPhone camera button. Complete luck. July 28, 2014. Finally, an 80K Week! Week of July 21 27. 804km / 50 mi. It's been a long time since I had an 80km week. Too embarrassing to tell you how long, but it's only the third time this year! The various niggles and sorenesses have kept my mileage down - basically all due to trying to do too much, too soon after races. I used to be able to recover quickly from races but just can't anymore. Quads a...

2011 Tokyo Marathon. Leaders at 6K. Stuck out my arm, pushed the iPhone camera button. Complete luck. May 12, 2015. Ran the Sendai Half Marathon on Sunday - short story, 1:49, managed not to re-injure the hamstring. Sendai is 90 minutes from Tokyo by almost-non-stop bullet train, up near where the earthquake/tsunami was. It's a very nice city, with wide streets and lots of greenery. May 12, 2015 at 5:29 PM. Glad you survived Bob. Sounds like a good race. Did Kawauchi win? Perhaps a tempo run for him.

2011 Tokyo Marathon. Leaders at 6K. Stuck out my arm, pushed the iPhone camera button. Complete luck. August 24, 2014. Week of Aug 18 24. 727km / 45.2 mi. 445 - 14k. 43:30/34:21 @ 6:13/4:54. 7k tempo with 5k @5:00, 2k @4:40. Managed to feel ok after stretching at 7k. Legs still had some tiredness from 20k on Saturday, so 5:00/k felt fast enough. Weights and abs at the gym. 7:30pm - club track workout 14.2k with 1000 x 4, 800 x 2, 400. 30C/86F - at 7:30pm. 3:30 - 12.5k with 2k x 4 hard. August 17, 2014.

Running Ragged

Sunday, February 15, 2009. Final thoughts.my progress. Overall, I would say that I did accomplish (or am in the process) my goals. I had wanted to learn to use my iPod, and I finally did! Last week I installed iTunes on my computer and I loaded a few CDs on to it. I have only used it once in class so far, but I am very relieved to have finally figured it out. It turned out to be really easy- I'm mad at myself for having stressed over it and put it off for so long (almost two years! I would also like to l...

Sunday, 7 October 2012. I BLOODY WELL DID IT! Ran all the way, no stopping, came in at 2.38.40! Can you believe it? But the last 4 miles were tough, especially the last one. My legs just stopped working but the support from the crowd was phenomenal. Having your name on your shirt really helps! 1 more day to go!
