Running to be Still

Running to be Still. This is James, and this is our story. Wednesday, August 13, 2014. It was a rough school year. The week before Thanksgiving this past year, I pulled James out of my favorite school in the world and moved him into another school. I wrote about why I did it here. Like the transition was good. He no longer cried about going to school before he went to bed at night and his teachers assured me that it was "like he was always in their classroom". I wondered a lot What the hell have I done?

Running to be Still: Prelude to a Post

http://runningtobestill.blogspot.com/2014/07/prelude-to-post.html

Running to be Still. This is James, and this is our story. Sunday, July 6, 2014. Prelude to a Post. I haven't been here for a while, and I've missed it. But I've been feeling a little bit stuck lately. I've always been completely honest about my family's life while sharing these few carefully chosen snapshots, and I try to only post things that I feel are respectful towards everyone in my family. James especially. 12 Part essay that exposes psychiatry as a bogus science. Psychiatry is a fake science.

Running to be Still: Rhythm Running

http://runningtobestill.blogspot.com/2011/04/rhythm-running.html

Running to be Still. This is James, and this is our story. Thursday, April 7, 2011. We've learned that letting him "run his laps" allows his body to organize itself. We know when he does only 6 laps that he's had a good day. We know when he gets in the door and immediately starts running that something is definitely off. The best thing we can do is to let him run and chant and make amazingly elaborate foot patterns until he is ready to move on. April 8, 2011 at 6:47 AM. Ive been thinking of starting a Bo...

Running to be Still. This is James, and this is our story. Monday, August 11, 2014. When I got the note from James' teachers saying that his class was going to participate in a week long work aboard program on a historic schooner in Boston Harbor. I was completely thrilled. What an amazing experience! What a fantastic way to spend an entire week! I was so excited for him to be able to do something so incredibly cool with his classmates. And then a split second later, I felt awful. We decided to play it d...

Running to be Still: Coming Back to our Neighborhood

http://runningtobestill.blogspot.com/2013/11/coming-back-to-our-neighborhood.html

Running to be Still. This is James, and this is our story. Saturday, November 16, 2013. Coming Back to our Neighborhood. But James has been struggling with school more and more each year. Not THIS school, just school in general. ELA ruins my life. He cries to me. I want to stay home. I can't go to school because I will be gone from you for too long. I feel sick. Johnny's school is closer. He doesn't get as much work as me. I want to move where there is no school. So last week I stopped wondering. But the...

Running to be Still: The VIP Treatment

http://runningtobestill.blogspot.com/2012/07/vip-treatment.html

Running to be Still. This is James, and this is our story. Monday, July 16, 2012. I heard him running while I was in the shower. It was 6 am. He was sprinting from room to room. Using all available space in our upstairs to get himself regulated for the day. The thing is, he had NO idea what the day was to offer. He thought we were going to the Herb Chambers Cars and Coffee. Event to see some fancy cars. But a lot happened since the last event that was going to make this day a bit different. And he did mu...

Running To Be Born

Running To Be Born. Tristan's trial-of-miles and other musings. Saturday, 22 June 2013. On the Long Run. What’s the time? Time to rise, time to shine, time to make up your mind that today is worth your breath, and that your heart deserves this good turn rather than that ambivalence. Sure it’s cold but we are human and are built to survive extremes of weather. Can you weather the storm? Do I dream too big? Or am I failing to understand the nature of dreams? It will take a universal dream to change the wor...

Running for Me

Tuesday, October 29, 2013. Running, running, running. My goal at the beginning of the year was to run a 5K each month this year and to run a marathon or 1/2 marathon. Well it is now October and I have only missed three 5K's. August, September I really stepped it up and began my training for the 1/2 marathon in Kansas City. The Waddell Reed 1/2 Marathon. Running through Kansas City was AWESOME! I cannot wait until next year to do it again. Links to this post. Sunday, June 9, 2013. Getting back to my goal!

Running to Be Skinny | (And to Eat)

Running to Be Skinny. Psychiatry: Medicine and Psychology Together. August 13, 2015. August 12, 2015. A Distinguished Fellow, Dr. Daniel Amen. There is a lot of unnecessary mystery and stigma involved in psychiatry. Medical health issues are usually something that a patient can understand, but the mind and how it works is difficult to understand. Individuals who have mental health issues are less likely to seek help, and they feel stigmatized, or afraid, to visit a psychiatrist. August 12, 2015. Most peo...

Running To Blog. er.uh. Walking to Blog. Let's be honest: A blog is a simple way to keep people informed without having to actually talk with people, right? Now that we're on the same page, read on and enjoy. Thursday, September 2, 2010. Things are getting interesting in therapy. When I walked in, Kendra and Cara (Kendra's intern) were at the door to meet me. I knew something was up right then because normally only 1 comes to get me. This allowed me to lose 2 of my exercises: Bridges and Heal Slides!
