Far From the Madding Crowd: May 2015
http://thomashardy.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html
Far From the Madding Crowd. Music and poetry—two sides of the same coin. Sunday, May 31, 2015. I suppose a nasty weather day was bound to happen eventually. Even so, I consider us lucky. We left Ghent at about 10 am (are you sensing a pattern here? So even though the riding weather wasn't quite as kind as it has been, we still managed to have quite a nice day. Certainly, arriving to a luxury hotel makes things a lot easier. Tomorrow is our last long ride. Kind of hard to believe this amazing ...In a sens...

Far From the Madding Crowd. Music and poetry—two sides of the same coin. Tuesday, January 31, 2012. Photo credit: Kazi Hirok. And so I come to the end of the first month of my “Resolution 2012” project. The result? Kind of entry, and there were only five days that I wrote fewer than 200 words. Then of course I wrote a number blog posts. With five posts here at Far From the Madding Crowd. Wednesday, January 11, 2012. And pick up a few bottles of scotch. It’s the best place I’ve found to bu...This Christma...

Far From the Madding Crowd. Music and poetry—two sides of the same coin. Monday, June 01, 2015. Tomorrow, we'll take the train into Brussels for one last day of sightseeing. The only essential thing on my agenda is the legendary Cantillon brewery. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile. Arts and Letters Daily. Art Ross's The Rest is Noise. Far From the Madding Crowd: Last day
http://thomashardy.blogspot.com/2015/06/last-day.html
Far From the Madding Crowd. Music and poetry—two sides of the same coin. Tuesday, June 02, 2015. Today, our last full day, was a "rest day," as in, no cycling. Tomorrow morning, we pack up everything, including our backpacks, which we had left at the B&B, and ride the bikes one last time, just a short jaunt of 20 km to the Brussels airport. Pretty much the first thing I did off the train was find a Belgian waffle place. We hadn't had a chance to try one yet, and it being our last day.
Far From the Madding Crowd: The road home

Far From the Madding Crowd. Music and poetry—two sides of the same coin. Saturday, May 30, 2015. In a sense, today marked the beginning of our journey home. We left Bruges this morning shortly after 10 am, with some light showers that got us just wet enough to stop and put the covers on the paniers. Of course, as soon as we did so, the rain stopped and the sun came out. Such is the way of the world. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Can I say beer heaven again? Can I stay here? Far From the Madding Crowd. Music and poetry—two sides of the same coin. Monday, June 17, 2013. Attack of the Zombie Translator. Photo credit: Chris Chabot. For instance, a dive tour operator with a South African accent was explaining how “the island relies on dive tours.” This had been transcribed as “the island relies on doctors” and translated as “l’île dépend des médecins”—completely ridiculous in the context. Some of the fault clearly lies with the transcriber. In the case of the South African s...

Far From the Madding Crowd. Music and poetry—two sides of the same coin. Monday, June 20, 2011. Lerma: a musical pilgrimage. I suppose one of the disadvantages of having performed music on some level for over 30 years is that I am very rarely surprised by a concert anymore. Which is not to say that I’m jaded; I can derive great enjoyment from (or be terribly disappointed by) a concert like anyone else. But while it seems as though standing ovations at concerts are almost de rigueur. By Tomás Luis de Vict...
Far From the Madding Crowd: January 2014

Far From the Madding Crowd. Music and poetry—two sides of the same coin. Sunday, January 19, 2014. A quarter-century seems such a poured-concrete measure. The push-me-pull-you of our journey is better. Defined by craned-neck views of indigo buntings,. Hand-in-hand sprints for cover from sudden storms,. Morning-loon lakes traversed in canoes,. Late-spring lady’s slippers hiding in plain sight,. Winter-chilled lunches in ember-warm ski huts. How actuarial to mark the mere day we met. Could we have foreseen.

Running and Rambling
Thoughts about food, running, and life in general. Wednesday, April 8, 2015. Take Me Out to the Ballpark….of Life. It must be spring because opening day of baseball season was Monday! And it’s 3am and I’m wide awake. Neither event correlates but I’m writing a blog at this ungodly hour whilst pondering life. A foul ball (you get another try), a walk (free pass! And a strike out (failure). However you play your game, remember we’re all on the same team. We can’t win it without each other. Which brings me t...
Run Rampage 2010 all rights reserved - Home
Is an exciting and brand new 10k extreme cross country - multi terrain event. The venue is the MOD's Bagshot army barracks. On the D1 and D2 alpine sites, which are their vehicle testing tracks, and as the word alpine describes, expect some very, VERY steep hills! Our competitors will be challenged both physically and mentally as we know they wouldn't want it any other way! Uneven terrain, grade one and two hills, water, and thick muddy bogs you name it, at Run Rampage. How tough do you think you are?
